What to get nephew for his first game?

Hey everyone! My nephew, who is 21 months, will be going to his first game (Pens vs Isles) soon, and I was wondering what kind of gear I should get for him? I didn't see many options on the shop.nhl site and I'm iffy on doing something custom, like a personalized bib (I would do it, but I think the quality won't be very good). Any other ideas? Thanks!

Hat. It will look goofy on him right now. But get him a hat. I was quite a bit older (6) than your nephew when my uncle got me a hat from a game and brought it to me back in 1990.

But up until a few years ago when the thing was quite literally falling apart on my own head I never quit rocking it for games. The thing was no longer black it was brown, the gold was no longer gold but tan. And the the white gray or just... Well nasty color. But I loved that thing for years and years.

Get him a good solidly stitched together hat and if he becomes a fan in a few years he will wear that hat like I did till its falling off of his head.

And now the patch from that hat resides on something else of mine. So it still has life... Sort of.

I would say thats the best bet. If he becomes a diehard fan you would have to shoot him to make him part with it.

A hat would probably be the longest lasting idea.

And although he can't wear it to the game, maybe track down a stuffed Iceburgh?

I'm almost 30 and the stuffed Iceburghs are one of my favorite pieces of Pens memorabilia that I've got He ought to love it. Last time I went to a game in '09, they told me they haven't had any in a while except a 4" stuffed keychain wearing a Winter Classic jersey. He's awesome though, and adorable. If you'd like a picture I'll put one up for you.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm in NY, so I'll see if I can track down an Iceburgh online. Looks like we're looking at a black Pen's shirt and a cap so far. And maybe a homemade sign to root for the Pens

Best of luck with that. I've looked and looked all over for one online(including checking Ebay alot) for myself but I have yet to find one.

As of right now the only Iceburgh stuff on Ebay are bobbleheads and an Iceburgh rubber duckie.

But yeah, if all else fails...you can't go wrong with a hat, a shirt, and a homemade sign.

That's where I found the 2 full plushes that I have. One is about 6" w/the RBK style jersey and the other is about 10" w/the pigeon logo.

The seller I got them from is from the Pittsburgh area, I guess she finds them at thrift stores, garage sales, etc. I can't find her name but if you set up a saved search for yourself you can receive emails anytime something gets listed. I haven't seen one in a while and for the past year or so I've only seen a couple and they were what I had already.

I know at one point they had an ~18" plush and I'm really looking to get that one. I saw a little kid walking around with one at the '09 Finals and was quite jealous

No way I want that 18" one first!!!! Back off it's miiiiine!!!!!

It's kinda funny when ya think about it. You and I are metal fans, and yet here we are openly and randomly discussing the adorableness of plush mascots and collecting them.

But then again, in addition to being awesome and adorable, Iceburgh as a mascot does have that "Sudden Death" ass-kicking, tough-as-nails factor of his. So It does balance out I guess.

Hmmmm 21 months eh? Maybe you should give him a flying elbow and show him what this team is all about.

But really that Iceburgh doll is pretty cute looking. Thats probably more appropriate.

For the lasting sake, i think it would be cool to get something that links to the specific game he is going to. I would love to have a framed picture with the tickets in there, from my very first hockey game. Something you can look back at when you get older.

Takes some time to get it all together. i.e keeping the tickets, game program, picture with the mascot. And putting them all together. But it would be something really cool to have.

F-it. I am a metal head also. If something is cute, its ****ing cute. No way to walk around it. Whether you are talking about a cute metal/rocker chick or a damn penguin doll.

Thats actually a fantastic idea. Wouldn't be hard to do ether. Framing isn't cheap but its not expensive ether. Would just have to hunt down one with the correct inner framing.

A 3 Cell one would probably be a fantastic keep sake. Cell 1: Game Photo, Cell 2: Picture of him and his nephew at the game, Cell 3: Game Tickets.

Hell I wish I had one of me and my uncle now, because as he got me into this team when I was young.

Just as a PS thought, how badass are uncles for this sport. My uncle got me into this game, I am getting my nephew into the game. The OP obviously is, etc etc.

Uncles do this sport a lot of good.

Shop.NHL.com has that for $69.99

Here's the linky. It does take 4-6 weeks until you get it though.

QFT.

It's just ironically funny in the sense though that we are probably the last kinda people that society would expect to be talking about stuffed animal adorableness.

I hear Lemmy is a Penguins fan.

I think the answer is a Pens Jersey with "Lemmy" and 00 on the back.
