So, what is on your wishlist now?

For me:

2nd pairing, RH'd D-man to round out out on the denfese.

Ian White i think could be a good value pick. Probably can be had around 3 million, still young. Basically a young Montador

Regehr-Myers
Leopold-White
Sekera-Weber/Morrison

#1. Center. This is going to have to be via trade to make it work. People are writing off Kotalik as a buy out, but, I think we are going to go after someone with our valuable Wingers (Ennis or Stafford), and this may well open up a spot for a versatile LW/RWer with a cannon shot like Ales. As much as people disparage him, he played good Hockey under Ruff, and it's not like he has had chronic health problems and my guess is he's hungry to return to the NHL

So, my ideal lineup:

Vanek-#1 Center- Pomniville
Ennis- Roy- Boyes
Hecht-Adam- Kotalik
Gerbe- Gaustaud - Kaleta

Just for *****, ran a quick addition of Richards + White as UFAs:

Center Wishlist:

#1. Statsny (with a high cap floor, is he movable on a rebuilding team?)
#2. Richards (Still a pipe dream)
#3. Pavelski (San Jose needs a winger for Thornton now they've moved Seto for Burns, might need some long term cap space to re-up Burns. Kassian+?)

Proposal for Statsny:

Stafford, Enroth, D-prospect/Player, 2012 1st

for

Statnsy, Elliot, 2012 2nd.

As I understand it Kotalik has negative value in the current deal being negotiated with the Flames. It would be pretty hard to turn around and try to deal him to another team for anything, much less a 1C.

Anyways, the way things stand now (looking at what Richards and Carter got...) I think a 1C is out of our range, at least for the type of assets we/Regier is willing to part with. B. Richards is the only 1C I can possibly see since we wouldn't have to give up assets to sign him.

If we can't sign him we could/should try for some cheaper ~2Cs. Yesterday while bored at work I did a quick mock-offseason and was quite happy with my wishlist, which boiled down to adding Stoll, Filppula, Regehr, and Brewer. I couldn't quite figure out how to make the trade with the Kings work though, as they are also looking to enter win-now mode and wouldn't be interested in our picks/prospects. Also, obviously I found out Brewer was signed when I got home yesterday.

I think what he was implying that if they trade ANOTHER winger or wingers for a center, Ales could conceivably play for us as opposed to just buying him out.

Obviously getting Regehr is a huge step forward. I actually think they should now resign Montador to complete the 'D'... something along the lines of 2yrs/$4m.

Regehr-Myers
Leopold-Montador
with two of Sekera/Weber/Gragnani finishing off the group. Trade Morisonn for whatever you get or failing that send him to the AHL.

And I was just thinking, weren't Regehr, Leopold and Montador all playing for Calgary when they went to the Cup final before the lockout?

With Regehr down, they still need a centre. I won't talk about Richards but I can still believe they could make a move for a guy like Spezza.... anything seems possible now. And even failing that, I'd be happy enough with a signing like Filppula.

It'd probably take that to go Stastny alone, if not more Johnboy. Flash is a UFA too btw. I think that team is far worse than what we have right now considering you have Flash in a top 6 with major medical issues and you're counting on Kotalik to be on the team and be his old self.

Likely more, too. Fair value would be Ennis, a top prospect, a first, and probably even another top prospect. I imagine Enroth would have to be one of those prospects. I'd love, love Stastny, though I don't think Colorado gives him up unless it's an offer too good to refuse (and not of the Feaster variety off too good to refuse).

Colorado is actually going to need help getting to the Cap floor as it stands. Any deal with them has to have Stafford/Boyes in it.

There are still a lot of questions about Fleischmann's health that need to be answered before he is going to get a contract from anyone.

Fleischmann's a UFA so we could just sign him if we wanted him. As Stone said though, he's coming off a pretty major health issue.

Obviously some type of center is needed, along with a 2nd pairing d. I would preferably look for another one with an edge

So who are the realistic options out there at center? Obviously Richards is the Holy Grail, but after him...? Hecht? Sign Connolly, Belanger, or Fiddler? Trade for a guy like Stoll or Hanzel?

How about the following:

Vancouver gets: Boyes and rights to Montador
Buffalo gets: Keith Ballard

and RH, one of Montador or Wisniewski would fit the job description all to well.. IMO it will be one the two signed if they go the FA route although I could see them content with what the have and that IMO is just fine with me. JUST GET A TOP 6 CENTER PLEASE AND THANK YOU !!

Sabres got Regehr, they don't need Ballard with that type of contract anymore. Even if they would consider this Canucks would have to add.

Even moreso, other than an aging Hejduk, they don't have a lot of offense on the wings. They have two great centers with no real snipers to feed.

Agreed - I've been one of the biggest Ballard supporters but he was always a 2nd choice if Regehr couldn't be had. And, with Myers due for a huge raise, I wouldn't want two veterans each being paid $4M.

I'm not that crazy about bringing Montador back; Bieksa likely won't even reach free agency; Ehrhoff seems destined to become another overpaid, overrated Brian Campbell IMO; and Wisniewski will be overpriced as well.

If another trade is to happen on defense, I'm hoping Matt Greene or Greg Zanon is involved. If it's a free agent defenseman, I'd be willing to see Ian White signed as the # 4 guy and Leopold's partner.

Regier on Myers:

Quote:
After July 1st the Sabres can begin negotiating with Tyler Myers’ agent. Regier said, "We will start to have conversations at some point in July."
Regier on the free agent market:

Quote:
"It's pretty thin. Some players that are currently on I don't think will get to market. I think they're still going to be signed so it's a pretty thin market, it'll be highly competitive, but we're hopeful to be able to help our team in it."
Translation on first: he doesn't expect Bieksa to hit the market.
Translation on second: he knows it'll be a bidding war for Richards.

Regier on how his M.O. has changed:

Quote:
"My basic philosophy still is it's going to start in the draft and the development, but now you have flexibility and the opportunity to add around that in free agency, whether it's the additional money available, resources available, the opportunity to try things and not feel as though the margin for error is just a lot greater and there will be some mistakes and we'll limit them, but in that process we'll be able to build a championship."

Can't say the Connolly part thrilled me. Hopefully Pegula meddles in good things and not bad things...

Still, as Snider said in his interview with CSN, Philadelphia would also like to re-sign winger Ville Leino, a pending unrestricted free agent. A source told The News that while nothing is imminent, Leino and the Flyers are not far apart, and a deal worth around $3.7 million per year is likely.
