While Bourque made anyone he was paired with look good, there was one pairing by which all other should be judged: Bourque and Gord Kluzak. It was during either the '87 or '88 season that they were widely considered the best defensive pairing in the league and would have continued to be one of the best for years if not for Kluzak's knee problems. There was a reason he was a first overall pick, and it's a damned shame his career ended the way that it did. Talented and tough. I'll never forget him sitting on Sabres captain Mike Foligno's chest and smacking the living **** out of him without even bothering to drop his gloves. Guy could skate, move up into the offensive play, played solid in his own end, and was Quaider tough.

He was one of my fav`s. I`m still a big believer that had he of stayed healthy, we wouldn`t have had to wait 39 years to celebrate a Cup

Agree wholeheatedly on Bourque/Kluzak pairing. Devastating!

Don Sweeney comes to mind as one who paired with Raymond the most.

Bourque and Thelven played together for a bit in 86 or 87, I believe.

Sad that Thelven had the bad knees and had to hand em up early.
