Just a short term guy, he's too tall to fit into our future plans.

He'll be dressing for games at the Bell Centre in a few years, but it'll be in a Youppi costume most likely.

That's correct, the award is given out annually on the off day between the National Semifinals and National Finals - a week from Friday (April 8, 2011).

If the Dogs extend Zanette's tryout, does he become Habs' property?

Habs would have to sign him. If the Dogs sign him it is an AHL deal and does not become Habs' property.

ive seen him play here at niagara and he carried our team this year along with his partner hychez or however his names spelled, he doesnt have the best draw for a center in my opinion but he has a nose for the net and just needs someone to get the puck to him, his production picked up once he got more ice time as well as being coached by ex-nhler jay mckee, he should work out well for u guys but i dont see him as any more than a 3rd line guy to be totally honest

NHL caliber at all is a steal imo.

And I don't wanna draw up potentials yet because I haven't seen him play in the AHL which could actually make him a better player or just break him all together.

Paul Zanette, LW
Senior, Niagara University
NHL rights: N/A

Until March, Zanette had led the nation in goal-scoring for much of the season. He finished his final year with 55 points (29 goals, 26 assists), nearly tripling his numbers from last season, playing in all 35 games for the Purple Eagles. His 55 points tied a school record for most points in a single season. Zanette's 29 goals currently rank third in the nation. Of those, ten have come on the power play and three have been shorthanded. Zanette's most impressive stat is the fact that he has posted at least one goal in 21 of Niagara's 35 games this season. And his stellar year hasn't gone unnoticed by NHL teams either.

Zanette was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year after leading the conference with 43 points (21 goals, 22 assists). He was twice named the league's Player of the Month for November and February. Zanette played on one of the nation's most potent forwards lines this season, alongside fellow senior Bryan Haczyk and sophomore Giancarlo Iuorio. The trio accounted for 39 percent of Niagara's total offense.

The Nobleton, ONT native is just the second player in the history of the Niagara program to be named a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award and the first since 2003.

Martin is constantly talikng about going to the net and having a net presence. I don't think he's the one who should get blamed if our offensive is too much on the perimeter. It's much more the players who aren't willing to pay the price.

We're not in on Da Costa? Why not? He's the best college FA out there.

We definitely are in on Da Costa but so are 15-29 other NHL teams.

Also Theres been talk he wants to stay in College another year to win a championship with Merrimack. If thats true he wont sign yet because NCAA players are not allowed to have agents, or NHL contracts, etc....

I'm sure they are interested but he's probably looking for a guaranteed NHL spot next year or at least a big incentive laden contract(see Bozak) which could have as big as 3.75 cap hit, I guess next year being the last one of the CBA all bonuses count towards the cap so it would be like having a rookie making 3.75 mil wether he gets those bonuses or not. Because of that teams like Phillie and Boston have apparently backed off and Ottawa, Minny and Florida are the frontrunners...

Just read on the sportsnet ticker that he is close to signing with the Florida Panthers

In the last 8+ years I've followed this board, it's always been the coach's fault on everything
