Shelley sustained a fractured orbital bone under his left eye after being struck by a deflected puck from the stick of Andreas Nodl at practice yesterday.
As CSNPhilly.com reported, Shelley had a nasty gash running from under his eye down the left side of his face alongside his nose.
"Jody Shelley will have surgery on Thursday, March 24 to repair a broken orbital bone on the left side of his face," general manager Paul Holmgren said in a statement. "This injury occurred in practice on Monday. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Guy Lanzi. Jody will be able to return in four weeks"

I guess you're saying this because he isn't going to play a playoff game. But, I am probably going to be corrected, I think if you play in at least 40 something games (maybe 45) during the season you can be exempt from the playoff game requirement.
Today, players appearing in 41 regular-season games or one Stanley Cup Final game for the championship team have their names engraved on the Cup. The NHL makes exceptions for players who do not meet the standard because of injury or other extenuating circumstances.
We're going to fall to the 7 seed now... just you watch, the other teams are going to start beating the crap out of our best players every night.
Agreed. This is worse then Pronger being hurt. Shelly was a key part in keeping Giroux, Richards, Briere, etc all safe. Now who will be out there when Giroux gets cheapshotted? This is a big blow to the team.
