Come on now. Miller is proven in the playoffs, Enroth is not.

Love Enroth's humility in the post-game.

This guy's in the pipe. <3

Our overall defensive play has definitely improved over the last couple games. Good time for them to pull it together

I've got nothing bad to say about the Sabres' play tonight. The team defense was awesome and Enroth was godly in goal...pretty much a complete 180 from last night.

****ing clutch win .

EDIT: Also, can't forget two other things. Grags bought himself at least one more game with his play tonight and the Matt Ellis principal holds true again .

Sekera-Weber --- 23:55 and 23:47 tonight.

I wish the entire team had the heart this guy does. His work ethic is incredible...but his talent just isn't where we need it to be.

Obviously, Enroth was great and MAG showed that speed on the blueline rules in Lindy's system.

My unsung hero: Mike Weber. He's still shaky with the puck, but his physical presence and shot blocking were top notch tonight. The third was his best period in a few weeks.

He may be short on talent, but hard work is contagious.

Vanek-Connolly-Pominville got the goal tonight and had some very good chances. Full props to TC for the goal and some quality PKing again. Poms late backchecking and the two strips where what we need to see out there with the game late and on the line.

He's more than talented enough to be on the 4th line. Not everyone needs to put up points.

By the way, I'm disappointed in Butler. If you see Lundqvist is having leg issues you pepper him with shots instead of deferring with a pass.

Good:
-Enroth. 'Nuff said.
-Offense in general. Created loads of chances, backchecked hard. Didn't look like the back end of a B2B.
-Gragnani with that huge blocked pass on the 2-on-1. Played a quiet solid game. Like his break-out passes.
-Weber in the second half was all over the place.
-Pominville was the best player on a good VCP-line.
-Connolly with a hell of a slapper.
-Matt-Ellis-effect
-My favorite non-Sabres goalie Mr. Lundqvist
-Vs. announcer was a pleasant surprise

Bad:
-Too many bad angle shots. Too many harmless unscreened wrist shots from the top of the circle.
-Didn't like Sekera.

Ugly:
-Effort in the Toronto game compared to today.

It is sooooooo comforting to know Portland is in good hands. When a call up is made, that player won't hurt you in their 1st game. And they usually just get more comfortable and confident the longer they're up. BIG props to Portland!!!!!

G - Enroth, Gragnani, pominville, the defense as a whole, and Lundqvist looked very good too

B - could not get a second goal on an injured Lundqvist

U - the pressure the Rangers were putting on us for extended periods in our zone

Is it just me or does our defense look better when the backup is in? Why is that?

It's no coincidence that he plays better with a better partner.

Mikey thrives on chemistry and trust with his D partner. Without that, he is lost. He doesn't have the speed to shake off defenders, so he relies on knowing where to go with the puck.

Good:
- Enroth getting his first shut-out.
- Connolly for reminding us why he is on this team. Even if he does it way too rarely.
- Gragnani had a fine game.
- I thought the Goose, Gerbe, Mancari line had a really good game.
- The team as a whole standing up big for Enroth.

Bad:
- The D-Core other than Gragnani all had issues at some point in the game.
- Getting constantly hemmed in the defensive zone, and seeming to be incapable of getting it out.

Ugly:
- Miller's injury. Enroth is nowhere near a better goalie than Miller, and I really think that without Miller play-offs are quite in question and a 1st round exit is all but assured.

Yea. Our breakout scheme relies on having mobile defensemen with the ability to rush the puck and make a good first pass.

Our forwards don't offer much support because they're further up in the neutral zone trying to stretch the defense.

When Leo went down and we dressed Monty/Weber/Shane/Butler, we only had one pairing with guys with puck skills (Sekera-Myers).

Tonight, we had a guy who could move the puck in each pairing (Grags/Monty, Sekera/Weber, Butler/Myers) which kept us from getting hemmed in too much.

Paired with a mobile partner who's playing well, Web can aggressively stand up at the blueline -- he went for a few hits tonight that connected. When he's partnered with Shame, it's clear he's thinking about having to be back. It takes away one of his strengths, his aggressiveness.
