The Leafs could play a major role in knocking the Habs out of the playoffs

There is the possibilty that the game on April 9th could be crucial to the Habs playoff hopes...they have 4 games left..3 on the road NJ (Parise returns..Lemaire factor)...Ottawa.(Anderson's been pretty good) and Toronto.

.they have 1 home game left on Tues vrs a desperate Blackhawk team

Even the habs press is starting to panic

http://www.hockeyinsideout.com/

oh it would be a sweet sweet deal if the leafs hammered home the last nail to their playoff hopes on Saturday april 9th..i'm certain habs fans are sweating to death if the situation arises.

Damn...please explain how the Habs would be knocked out? You are getting my hopes up but how would it happen? They would have to lose out and the Canes win all their games? Man....that would be epic...almost as good as the Leafs making it themselves....Oh please hockey gods...talk about justice!

Call me a blasphemer, but I'd rather the Habs make it than the Hurricanes.

Montreal has 89 points with 4 games to play
Carolina has 84 points with 5 games to play

If Montreal goes 1-3-0 they'll have 91 points
If Carolina goes 4-1-0 they'll have 92 points

I guess it's possible...

As Leafs fans, would we rather pass Carolina for 9th to make Boston's draft pick slightly worse (slim, but the only straw we have left to grasp on to)? Or watch Montreal collapse and possibly put the final nail in the coffin on the final game of the season?

Well if the habs lose their last 4 and the leafs win their next 5, we pass them.

Ofcourse this is highly unlikely, even with the Habs recent slump.

Oh, I didn't even notice that Montreal was sitting in 6th two points ahead of Buffalo and NYR with a game in hand.

Carolina's last five: Isles, Sabres, Wings, Atlanta, Tampa Bay
Montreal's last four: NJ, Chicago, Ottawa, Toronto

I'm grinning ear to ear at the thought of it but I don't think Carolina are going to win 3 or more of those game and I don't see Montreal losing more than two.

I also want the Habs in aswell, since the Leafs have a slim chance of getting in the Habs are the only Canadian Team that are in it in the east

How about the Habs go 0-4-0, Leafs 5-0-0 and Canes 2-2-1 That would be quite a story

I'd rather the Habs over the Canes as well only because we have a better chance of playing catch up to the Canes than we do the Habs. I'm looking at the 9th spot as a possible goal for the Leafs just to make Boston's pick slightly worse. If Carolina stumbles in a game or 2 in their last 5, we have a shot at overtaking them. We can only maximize 90 points and with the Habs at 89 points already and 4 games left to go, it's a pretty tall hope that they'll lose the remainder of their games. They just need to pick up a single point out of a possible 8. Even if we tie at 90 (with us winning every game left), they would get the go ahead because of the tie breaker.

On paper it looks like the Habs wouldn't fall that far and the Canes wouldn't win that many but it's still possible. Look at the string the Devils put together for awhile. Look at how Atlanta fell off the face of the earth. Looks at the Cavs beating the Heat the other night. It's why they play the games, you never know. It COULD happen that the Habs are out and the Canes or Leafs are in, stranger things have happened in other years and other sports.

Blasphemer. There ought to be some kind of filter to block this sort of disgusting and offensive language out of the Leafs forum.

MTL goes 1-3-0, Carolina goes 2-2-1, Leafs Run the table. Book it!

Even then, this determined Sabres/NYR teams look like they'll push the Habs to eighth if anything, and then pitting them against Philly who will probably smash them in the first round, given how well the habs have bared against them the last few years

Awesome thing is, it'll probably happen. A game in hand and 2 points ahead of 2 teams who are playing WAY better hockey. Looking like first round exit for habs

Putting Montreal's playoff hopes to rest would be the best thing we've done all season - I just don't see them dropping that far. But if they do, maybe the Leafs will be playing postseason hockey (finally)?

If caroline goes 2-2-1
Leafs go 4-0-0 (very unlikely)
and habs go 0-1-2 (very unlikely)

That would be the biggest last game ever btwn habs and leafs ever. Leafs would have 40 wins, habs 41 but I think leafs would have more wins in regulation (which I think would be the tiebreaker- no?)

LEAFS vs. HABS for final playoff spot.

Pipe dream I know, but man would that be exciting. THAT would be an equivalent to a game 7 in the playoffs. This wont happen though... Our next games are very tough. Boston, Sharks (who have been the best team lately), devils with parise, Ottawa (weak teams have given us trouble for some reason)... I just cant expect the leafs to go through all these teams without a loss and habs to go the next three games without a win.

I dont know but that would be like a dream come true for any leafs fan. Biggest game of the year (for any team in the nhl)

Carolina has a pretty easy schedule, all things considered. Isles and Atlanta have been bad and Tampa needs to get their act together if they are going to make any noise. Plus, last game of the season, might be already clinched in a certain spot so won't try, just go out there to avoid injuries. Wings have major goaltending issues with Howard out (how long is he out for?). A win Sunday and they could actually definitely sneak in. Rangers, if they're not careful, could slip out. I can see Sabres being the 6th or 7th seed. I hope they go in as the 6th seed because that is one team I can definitely see knocking Boston out in the first round.

This could be like 2007.. but without the NJ fail against NYI.
That would be epic.
