D-men coaching for next year

Knowing that both Hal Gill and Roman Hamrlik would like to stay in Montreal in some capacity, and that both D-men had some success in showing the ropes to rookie D-men (Subban, Weber) who do you want to coach the Habs' blueliners next season?

Do you mean that they would retire from hockey and coach the defencemen? I don't think that would happen.

I had a thread about this a few months ago. I said Gill should be the D asst. coach. He's positively vocal, seen it all and then some. The fact that he's limited by his own skills (ahem acceleration) doesn't diminish his practical knowledge of defense. Plus his kids love MTL (from Nos Canadiens).

Hamrlik already said he's not retiring next season.

Neither, both will be playing key roles with NHL teams again next year, whether it's with us or not remains to be seen.

Lol, both those guys can still play hockey.

I elect Patrice Brisebois.

I'd rather have an experienced D-coach...

If I had to choose I'd go with Gill. That being said I'd rather steal Robinson away and have him be the defense coach.

Both these guys are holding key roles on our team. They are both playing about 20+.
You think they would jump from that to coaching? Why?
Hammer will get a multi-million dollar deal either from us or other teams. I expect him to get around a 3M/2year deal.
Gill will likely get a 1-1.5M/1y deal.

They are very serviceable Dmen. Their time isn't up yet.

I never heard either express an interest in coaching - only that both expressed a desire to re-sign with the Habs to play D.

But answering the question hypothetically I'd vote for Hamrlik because he's been a solid d-man who has contributed both offensively and defensively. Hamrlik has more offensive awareness than Hal Gill while still positionally sound defensively which is why he leads the team in blocked shots too.

As far as being vocal - I would have questioned that with Hamrlik before this year. But I've attended 3 Habs games and I've seen Hamrlik be every bit as vocal as Gill if not moreso.

Gill IMO is perceived as the vocal one because he is one of the team's spokes people for the mediaites. Besides I wouldn't want all the d-men to be taught to lay down. LOL

Why has it suddenly become the consensus that one or both could become the defensive coach of the Habs? Has either one of them displayed any form of interest in the job, let alone retiring from hockey in order to work that job?
