[crazyfan]He orchestrated the team that collapsed in 86. He is therefore clearly trash and not to be regarded.[/crazyfan]

More seriously, RIP dude. He got to see 'em win twice. But I'll take this report more seriously if it's still on websites tomorrow.

What was most impressive about Gorman was the 3 playoff appearances in his 10 seasons. There would have been no 2004 World Series and only 1 playoff appearance by Theo's teams in 9 years, without the help of the Wild Card being added in 1995. Not to mention, money was much less a factor in baseball during the 80's.

Great guy, opened up the communications between fans and the Front Office after games. I met him once in the 406 club-very cordial. Irony of passing on Sox Opening Day for a true baseball man and Navy veteran.

Plus, there was a Lou Gorman draft pick (Trot Nixon) on that 2004 championship team.

Gorman acted like an average joe from what I saw of him. A lot of the oldtimers
like Pesky, Radatz etc were/are class acts.

OT from the Gorman thraed, but just read that Jim Seymour passed away at 64. I remember in 6th grade pretending to be Seymour hauling in passes from Hanratty.
