There's 90 seconds left, you're down two goals - someone shoot the ****ing puck!

A kid who doesn't want to shoot has been given consistent PP point time for months. Meanwhile one who does want to shoot has been sitting in Houston. This organization doesn't get it.

That's more effective than the 5th defensemen. Spurgeon has been completely sheltered from a defensive role. He's been playing exclusively as a PP specialist, like MAB was. Yet he doesn't show the talent or mindset of a PP pointman. If you're going to call-up a PP specialist, call-up the player that has shown the skills, mindset, and results of one.

I'm fine with the well-deserved loss. Gives us a better shot at the top-10.

Yeah, but wasn't Patty O'Sullivan AHL rookie of the year at one point too?

My post-game report...

http://www.stateofhockeynews.com/201...lightning.html

I actually felt the effort was pretty reasonable and if the Wild had two functional skaters to replace Brunette and Miettinen I think they may win this game. Those two look atrocious. I thought Falk and Noreau played reasonably well. It'd be nice if more guys actually looked at the power play as an opportunity to shoot the puck instead of just passing it.

Just to note, there is a prospect update on some of our WHL kids, and a Houston Aeros report. Enjoy!

i think falk had his confidence damaged by being sent down and needs to find it. He looked very herky jerky at points like he was running through scenarios in this head while the play was coming at him. I think he could be solid if he doesn't get thrown off easily by a bad game here or there. Noreau looked fine to me--I think he reads the ice as well as spurgeon but isn't as calm when he fks up. MAB lite, yes...but i don't see any reason he couldn't get better with a little more experience.

FWIW i don't think Spurgeon has a problem with/fear of shooting--he just isn't as motivated to shoot as Noreau is. I think Puck Daddy had an article last week that talked about how players with a lot of goals tend to shoot a lot...Ovechkin and Stamkos, namely. Bombing one in from the point isn't always going to be your best bet but if a team gives you that option on the powerplay over and over again you're going to get it in there eventually off a body or rebound or whatever.

I'm really liking Bouchard's play over all lately. A lot less there to complain about than before the big concussion.

Madden must be really hurt. Havlat's probably already overseas.

I liked what I saw from Noreau. Great point shot and puck movement on the PP, even if he was a bit pass happy. But nobody's perfect in their second NHL game. Looked a lot quicker and more dangerous than Spurgeon, who even though I like him always looks a little timid.

Didn't care to watch anyone else and deleted after the half.

Spurgeon...

I didn't really like this kid when we first started playing him but I wouldn't compare him to Marc-Andre Bergeron as I'd compare him to Petteri Nummelin, just more defensively conscious. You're right about him not panicking as much when someone screws up. I am not sold on him being a permanent fixture of the Wild's blueline as I know teams throw out their power forwards knowing he can't handle those situations all too well. I didn't think he was bad.

Noreau looked much calmer in this little stint than he did in his first game where he seemed to just be in awe of the speed of the game. Falk didn't look all that bad to me I guess, and I agree with Rynryn that I think he can be a very serviceable defenseman. He has the mobility to be pretty good considering his size. Maybe this is a chance for the Wild to look at Noreau and consider whether they would've been better off with him on our blueline than Spurgeon who was a very similar player in junior with Spokane.
