I would absolutely love to grab Nabokov on waivers and completely rid ourselves of Smellis one way or another.

There are talks that the contract Detroit is offering might be multiple years, include a ntc/nmc, etc... as things to deter teams from picking him off waivers but honestly none of that would scare me away from grabbing him for here.
Also, heavy performance bonuses.

Roli and Nabby splitting starts would be fabulous.
I think Tampa has $8.771m cap space right now. I don't think Detroit can take on Nabokov for more than Osgood, so, if he gets here it's going to be interesting.

Right now the problem teams ahead of us might be:
San Jose
Chicago

I don't think San Jose would claim. Niemi has been pretty good lately and they still have Niittymaki on a 2 year deal. Wilson doesn't seem like the type to bring a guy back after letting him go either.

Chicago has a tight cap too, and Crawford seems legit.

This is all clearly a move being made by SFY. Call up the wings get them to make the offer he wants then when he goes through waivers SFY claims him. SFY then sends gift basket of Muffins back to Detroit.

Maybe SFY told Holland he can have Ritola back if they give us Nabby?

Unrelated: This topic never seems to die does it?

Ottawa is so far out of the playoffs Toronto is passing them

Colorado has solid goaltending at the moment
Columbus is near the playoffs, but this isn't a "tilt in your favour" move for them from what i can see
Washington is closer than the other 3 teams, they have a Russian goaltending coach, but they can afford like $264000 of cap space at present. They'd have to move some players in order to do this.

Unfortuantely. I want nothing more than one of our prospects to get called up and shut us all the hell up.

Yeah, I probably had to do more title changes than OT 19/3.

Irbe is Latavian!

We need to bring back Karsums for this reason. EDIT: Because no Latavians = no Latavian fans here.

FWIW, I consider Irbe Russian because he played under the Soviet title, saying that Nabokov is Kazak. there would be an immediate working relationship between the 2 players.

We cant trade Ritola without offering him on waivers again, in which if Detroit wants him back they have a chance to do so for free.

Tangentially related, but I've got to wonder about the possibilities of a goalie using dazzle camouflage.

Roloson's already gotten his new mask, but the fact that I've never seen a goalie, outside of one guy in the WHA2, who used it on his leg pads (arguably), makes me think it might already be banned.

I've always been intrigued by pads camouflaged as the net.

It makes sense to make it look like the net, but I think dazzle may have an edge because, if properly executed, it could make a goalie confusing to get a quick read on, positionally.

What the illusion of net camo may do, is make shooters think there's more room than there is and end up shooting more, if on poorer chances, I'd rather they hesitate and not shoot at all.

Smitty now 0-2 in his AHL stint. Ads lost 2-1 tonight. (2 GA on 21 shots)
