Well that sucks.. nice guy, too bad he will be down in the AHL... *** Vinny Prospal started it all, he was a good goalie too until that point

Well this just got "interesting".

They reported on NHL live that the team retracted the statement of Smith being assigned to Norfolk. And there are reports that he wont report if he does in fact get assigned.

Dont know why the team would retract it though, wonder if someone came calling about a trade (you say why didnt they take him for free, maybe they need to free up a contract).

Interesting though. If Smith doesnt report than the Lightning dont have to pay him the rest of the year so win for them too.

Now the Lightning are saying Smith has not been sent to Norfolk, after a press release came out saying he was.

Apparently, he wants a few days off first. Not totally unlike the last 2 years he's taken off.

I hope Smitty makes a team somewhere... when he came here had all this potential I kept hearing about. I guess Dallas sold us a concussed egg of a player. I want richie back now! Good luck Smitty no matter where you end up.

It just occurred to me where I've seen situations like Smith's. (taking a few days off before reassignment)

Guys who are contemplating retirement.

It'd make sense but I really doubt it. If he can take a season off and maybe shake the concussions off, he could perhaps improve.

While we are obviously joking. Its not that far from the truth due to all his injuries.

41 GP, 42 GP, 17 GP. Last two years and this year. Pretty shoddy for a "starting goaltender".

He was a nice guy but Im glad hes gone and Ill never feel sorry for someone who has gotten paid millions to play hockey for years.

He'll probably have a shot of making the roster, I'd say.

Damian Cristodero recently reported there’s a good chance 41-year-old goaltender Dwayne Roloson could return with the Lightning next season. Cristodero noted there aren’t many affordable goalie options available in this summer’s free agent market, the Bolts need to re-sign forward Steven Stamkos, and Roloson could be an affordable, short-term option, plus he wants to remain with the team.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Roloson’s earning a cap hit of $2.5 million this season and it’s possible he might consider a one-year, $2 million extension to remain with the Bolts.

All Goalie Talk 2011/12: "Good chance Roloson might return!"

I love Roloson and would love to keep him here as the Starter for one more year. BUT if somehow Bryzgalov is on the UFA market. We NEED to get him in a Bolts uniform. Pay the man his money and get him. Im not a huge fan of Vokoun so basically just Bryzgalov.

If not then Roloson with Smith as a named backup (yes I said Smith) would be ok with me next season, if not Smith than I wouldnt mind CD getting the backup spot or theres a few decent ones on the market.

I will say this, if we save the money and get Roloson back next year, Richards should come back as well. We would have plenty of cap space for that if we arent signing a Bryz type goalie (even if we did we would technically have enough space even after Stamkos et al resigning).

It will be interesting to see which way SFY goes this offseason in making improvements.

If we can get Vokoun/Bryz on a discount then great, if not I would be fine with Roloson on a one year deal as a stop gap. I don't know how much I trust CD as a backup however more so due to his durability.

As an extreme longshot but something I would love...

Bryz/Rolo as #1/#2 would be more than awesome.

Also, if I had to choose I would rather have Bryzgalov than Richards.

I think everyone here is in agreement that we would welcome Roli back as the starter next year on a 1 year deal but I'm even more worried about the back-up. He's played well since the call-up but I still don't trust Smith. I think it's time to just say that ship has sailed. We need a back-up who can play 20-30 games and be reliable and satisfied with that role. I think Biron is a UFA, I'd like to take a run at him if he is. Though, he's never played outside NY and Pennsylvania in his career, so getting him to come South might not work, Rangers seemed to like him alot too.

What about a guy like Peter Budaj? Or even Emery?

I was absolutely thinking that a Bryz/Roloson 1/2 would be sick. Would be the best goaltending duo we have ever had too.

Where does CD fit into your lineups though? I agree his injury history lately is little concerning.

Technically if we let go of Gagne (or he takes a severe discount to the tune of around 2-2.5M a season, which is possible I guess), we could definitely afford the Stamkos raise, as well as bringing in Bryzgalov at around 5-6M per and Richards at around 5M per (again he would take a pay cut but I honestly think he would do that for a chance at another cup as well as being back where he belongs and by his BFF in Vinny and Marty for that matter). How sick of a team would that be?

Downie-Stamkos-St Louis
Lecavalier-Richards-Malone/Gagne
Malone/Gagne-Moore-Bergenheim
Tyrell-Thompson-Hall/Minor Callup/UFA

Brewer/Lundin
Hedman/Clark
Ohlund/Kubina (Would love to move these two in the offseason though lol)

Bryzgalov
Roloson

Thats a sick team. Even the defense is solid IMO, could be better but with the forwards and the goalies to sandwich them I think its just fine.

Ok sorry, I went on a rant haha.
