Falling Prospects: Couturier and Rask

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hocke...e-report_N.htm

Redline reporting that Courturier is falling out of the top 10, not because he isn't good, but because all other players are going into overdrive around him.

If he falls out of the top 10, Flames might have a decent shot at getting our mythical centerman.

Another player of note is Victor Rask, tabbed as a top 5 last year that I think sounded good at the beginning of the year but his ranking has dropped fairly low into the mid or low first round.

Rask I'd like, from reports, the guy has creativity and speed and vision in addition to his size. For lack of better reports, it seems he hasen't been able to dominate as people thought he would? I haven't seen much of him, but if someone else hs, maybe shed some light on why he is dropping?

Either way I think Flames have a chance at getting a player with top six potential here.

I'd love to have Khokhlachev too Can't possibly go wrong with a Fedorov comparison.

I think lot of people have Rask going in the 2nd round now.

As much as I'd love a center, I doubt Couturier falls to us. If he does, great. If not, take Armia.

There are quiet a few centers still available, and the whole "Center" debate has been going on for so long. You sure you want to take anotehr winger first?

I mean we are locked up on wingers already.

That being said, Armia was compared as a lesser Selanne type heh. Can't say that is a bad thing.

I think the only way you get a first line center is if your drafting in the top 5. Why take an average center later in the draft when their is a good chance Backlund could be better then him in the future. Drafting a skilled winger to play with Backlund in the future is not necessarily a bad thing, especially one like Armia.

You can play Backlund on the wing. Its much easier to convert centers to wingers than vice versa imo.

There are plenty of first line centers out of the top 5.

Getzlaf immediatley comes to mind then Richards, Kopitar and Oshie as late 1st round picks that turned into 1st line centers.

Two of those guys came out of a deep 2003 draft, and how is Oshie a first line center? you can still get one but it is unlikely to get a first line center without a top pick. The only one that I can think of is Richards.

He has the ability to play center and definitely has the two way ability for it. He also started out as a center prospect I believe.

Flames will be in the early 10s so there are still a bunch of good picks at that level for potential #1 centers.

But on the other hand, I don't have much faith in Feaster's ability to draft well......for all we know he'll draft a goalie or something -_-

I'd trade up in the draft depending on how far he falls. I want Couturier on this team.

After that WJC, I'm not sure if I do want him as much

For some odd reason it minds me alot like a certain Daniel Tkachuk.

I'd be willing to take a chance on him. He has the potential to be a top line center, depending on the cost, I'd trade up and snag him.

3 way trade:

The Anton goes to both EDM and COL, plays 41 games for each team.

to CGY:

COL 1st rounder 2011 (projected 2nd overall)
EDM 1st rounder 2011 (1st overall)

The flames draft RNH and landeskog

In all seriousness though, what would you guys think if we traded up using j-bo and our first? gotta think thats tempting for a team like the avalanche, or edmonton (but I cant see them giving up their 1st overall)

We don't really have anything to trade up in this draft, I would almost rather trade down and have a bit lower of a 1st and a 2nd this year.

The Anton will win the Stanley Cup with both teams despite coming from the same conference.

I personally wasn't all that impressed with Couturier in the WJC. Maybe it was the role he was playing but it seemed like he was a step behind the play. Actually...he reminded me a lot of watching Niemsz play. Which, atleast IMO, isn't all that impressive.

I would love to get Armia. Here's a kid who has 29 points in 48 games in the Finnish MENS league. Not to mention, he seems to have that natural scoring prowess. I think he and Backlund could develop some excellent chemistry. That said though, I think he will likely go before we draft. I sure many other teams also like his ability to more than hold his own in the Mens SM-Liiga, which is likely to help him make a quicker transition into the NHL.

Couturier is dropping, but I don't see him out of the top 10. That would be quite shocking as he will be in the NHL in October.

I would really like to see the Flames take a forward, regardless if it's a centre or winger. Strome, Armia, Puempel, Mcneil are players i would like to see Feaster target.

I have always been high on Victor Rask, he'll be a steal if he drops into the 2nd round.

Their is no way Couturier drops out of the top 10.

My wishlist.

1. Joel Armia
2. Mark McNeill
3. Mika Zibanejad
4. Matthew Puempel
5. Tyler Biggs
6. Brandon Saad

Strome and Couturier would be awesome but unrealistic selections, meaning they will likely be gone before our selection.

Ya acquiring Draft picks was always something Sutter did. Ask yourself the question in a draft where the talent drops off immensely after the top 6 or so what is better. A 15 or 16th overall pick and then no one pick till the fourth round. Or a 20th or so and a 35 - 40th then another in the 4th. Don't put all your stalk and expect our first rounder this year to turn into some superstar.

And look how well that turned out, I Just cant see him dropping due to his size and two-way ability that essentially makes him ready for the NHL next year.
