Top 5 ufa you want in O&B

For me its gotta be:

Rolston- Seems like a Hitchcock kinda guy
Shanahan- Change of scenery could be good for him
Zhamnov- He did pretty well here
Recchi- You just don't let your mvp get away
Cullimore- clear the crease

1. Glen Murray
2. Pavol Demitra
3. Brian Rolston
4. Paul Kariya
5. Mark Recchi

Logically (with regards to the kind of money I think this team will spend):
1.Richard Matvichuk
2. Jon Klemm
3. Bryan Marchment
4. Jason Wiemer
5. Scott Young
--Klemm, Marchment and Matvichuk because I think this team needs to sign a veteran defensman to be ready for the season. However, Matvichuk is the best out there IMO.

I know I'll get fried for saying Marchment, sure he's a cheap shot artist...whatever...hockey is a game where you shouldn't care about hurting the other teams feelings (or knee joints)...we haven't had a feared hitter since Dan McGillis, and even he wasn't as reputable as Marchment for delivering big hits...I'm telling you, someone like Marchment to get into the opposition's heads will do us well.

Scott Young...all the gritty, hard nosed players this team has accumulated will do us well. However, we have no real shooters on our forward lines, outside of maybe Roenick and Gagne. I see Young playing in maybe 65 games but he'd be a good addition. Glen Murray would be great for us in this role, but I doubt we spend the money to get him

Jason Wiemer...I dont' care if we don't have room on our depth charts at center; make room. Great on face offs, goes after the other team, fights occasionally. Would be an amazing upgrade for our 4th line, putting him and Turner Stevenson would make for the best 4th line in the league. Wiemer also plays left wing.

Klemm has been signed and Marchment has a bad reputation AND he can't play defense very well, I thought he was horrible against Philly. This team should sign a veteran d-man, but not someone that's expected to play in the top 6, Seidenberg needs to get his shot.

Thank God he already signed with Atlanta. Jaroslav Modry is exactly what we don't need.

Ah, understood. No worry anyway, since Rolston is a "wild" (man, that sounds stupid) now.

Rolston is going to do well in NJ. he played for Lemaire in NJ.
so he will have no problems adapting to the system, Gabo finally has a solid #1 center.

For a 7th defensman role...Curtis Leschysyn? Murray Baron? Jeff Finley? I'm not downwith the idea of "Let's sign someone who sucks on purpose so Seidenberg can beat him out"...make the kid earn it. I say push for Matvichuk.

For sentimental value, I'd love to see McGillis brought back to Philly. However his style of play doesn't match with hithcock's at all...the beginning of the season in 02-03, followed by his improvement in Boston in the last season and a half show that.

I'd be down for Glen Murray and Curtis Leschyshyn, or Matvichuk.

I will try and be realistic here.

1. Demitra - yes, I think they could make an offer with a base of 4-4.5 with incentives for 3 years just to get your foot in the door. If he gets better at least he knows we are there to compete for his services but I would not break the bank.
He would be very key on the first line in a scoring role opposite Gags.

2. Simpson - not Homer. I think we need at least one more D as it takes at least 7 to win in the NHL and with our cast injuries should be expected. He is a vet and physical, if his head injury is in the past I could see him fit right in with this group.

3. Matvichuk - I think he would play better again in the Hitch system and could likely be had at a discount.

4. Baron - I think Murray would be a great 7th guy to have around and could be had around one mill max. I would have put Cullimore but his asking price was rumored at 3+mill - no thanks.

5. Zhamnov - yes if he takes the three year original offer, but not at more money.

Honorable mention - make a league min with incentive offer to Deadmarsh. At least you have his rights if there is a long lockout as well.
