If I'm a team that wants Ville Leino, I claim Michael Leighton so hard right now.

The Avs could actually use Leighton as a starter at 800K if they can't get Bryz or Voukon.

I have no idea. Z only made sense to pick up if you wanted him for this year, though. So, you had two things going on.

1) All the teams that weren't really going to make the playoffs had no reason to pick him up.

2) All the teams that were fighting for the playoffs had to decide if they wanted to put up with Z (assuming they had any need for a forward in the first place).

A much wider net of teams could have interest in Leighton.

I hate to say I told ya so, but I said it was a mistake to waive him in the first place. Homer has no negative thoughts about re-entry waivers.

Waiving him wasn't a mistake, especially since it allowed for 1.5 mil of cap room. Recalling him is a mistake.

I hope he's not coming back to replace anyone and only here to come in if both of our goalies start to suck bad in the playoffs

At this point, I'm praying he's here AT ALL just so we aren't stuck with dead cap space.

I'm thinking Paul Holmgren, as a child, could be encouraged to insert a knife into a socket if told there was a 1% chance he would gain superpowers.

No worries..Eklund's awesome sources say Leighton won't be picked up...

Quote:
However, the scouts I talk to are all VERY aware that Leighton's back is a HUGE question mark which will scare off teams. There was a point the Rangers were a likely candidate to snag him...if for no other reason than to keep him away from the Flyers and get a cheap backup for next year.

But talking to scouts....there are more than a few who tell me unfortunately Leighton's back won't be able to hold up at the NHL level...probably ever.

Eklund isn't a good source for anything analytical... the Rangers don't need a cheap backup for next year. They have Biron signed for 875K already.

I actually don't mind Eklund if you're just looking for some water cooler talk (as he clearly does have connections), but anything beyond that is a waste of everyone's time. Dude has F ups on a regular basis regarding pretty basic stuff.

I pity the poor person whose responsibility it is to answer the waiver-claim phone. "NHL waivers, please hold." RING "NHL waivers, please hold." RING "NHL waivers, please hold." RING "NHL waivers, please hold." RING "NHL waivers, please hold. I said I would get to you, Mr. Snow!!"

RT @DarrenDreger: The Flyers have lived without Leighton all season, at half price, based on feedback around the NHL, he's likely getting claimed on re-entry.

A different perspective from someone who might know a thing or two more than the anonymous one.

I can see Florida claiming him for next year to backup Clemmenson. Are there any other goalies really available this offseason besides Vokoun?

Dreger's quite often flat out wrong or jumps the gun on things before he's properly checked them out. I fell better about him clearing based on this comment...
