Leighton on Re-Entry.... Leino?

No doubt in my mind that Leighton gets claimed by some team in need of a backup next year.

His cap remains would be about 800k for the next two years saddled on the Flyers. With their commitments in salary (at least 49m heading into next season by my calculations, possibly more) what a stupid move on their part.

Horrible decision. Anyway, my point: Ville Leino is a player I have enjoyed since his brief time with the Wings, and would love to see in a Penguins uniform.

What do you think it would take monetarily this offseason/is there any interest?

If he's leaving the Flyers I imagine it's to cash in so probably looking at around 3 million given that it's a weak year for Free Agent wingers.

Not necessarily that he wants to leave the Flyers, I just don't see the money.

I believe JVR and Giroux are due soon as well?

Thats the max of what we would be able to pay him if, key word, IF the cap went up 3 million to 62.4.

No way can the Flyers afford to keep him. Not sure the Pens can afford to add him either. I would say about $2.75 million and I don't think they can add that.

I'd love to have him, and there's a real possibility he could be on our radar this summer. He's cheap enough to be a realistic option, but good enough to be on our wishlists.

He's on the outs in Philly, before money is even involved. He's gotten his ice time lowered significantly and there seems to be a mutual dislike between Leino and Laviolette (per CSN).

Think the flyers have more cap space then us next year. They signed giroux for an absolute steal.

That is a big part of this also. I wonder how he would click with Blysma.

They wont have the bonus cushion next year and may even have carry over bonus penalties. Even with a large cap increase (3 million), league minimum 13th forward, league minimum 7th d, and no RFA raises beyond qualifying offers the Flyers would be in trouble.

If Leighton were claimed they'd have less than 2 million for signing Leino AND their call up buffer.

I can't believe the Flyers don't keep Leino. As far as Leighton, he won't be a Flyer because he's no better than anyone else they have.

If Leighton is claimed their losing *someone*. The numbers just don't add up for them to keep everyone.

If we added him I wouldn't be dissapointed he's a great player and I'd probably prefer him to BJ.

He'd definitely have to take somewhat of a discount to play in Philly, if he's willing to signed for around 2.5-2.75 then they could probably make it work (Laperriere will probably have to retire and I could see them walking away from Carcillo). If they did lock him up though the years would be important as JVR, Versteeg,Carle, Coburn and Hartnell will all need new contracts in the not to distant future.

Leino would be a clutch pick up...add him and you have an amazing top six:

Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Kunitz, Neal, Leino. Then you have Jeffery, Kennedy, Letestu, Cooke to fight for the 3rd line spots. 4th line always comes together. \

We need that last piece to be a Cup favorite...he could be it. $3mil...I believe we could swing that if the cap goes up.

I'd make maybe make it...

Leino - Crosby - Kennedy
Neal - Malkin - Jeffery
Kunitz - Staal - Cooke
Adams - Letestu - Rupp

Hard to believe that the wings basically dumped him for nothing.

I think he could definitely be a nice pickup, but it depends on the price.

Leino really isn't all that great. He's run pretty hot and thanks to the Flyers depth has the fortune of playing against very weak competition with quality linemates. I'm hoping the Flyers overpay to keep him in Philly, but chances are with their cap situation that he'll head to the open market and cash in on his success.

Yeah, I see it the same way. I'm not that crazy about him either. I'd certainly take him for scoring depth, but it would have to be under 3 million/per or I'd pass. He can probably get more than that though.

If under 3 mil, I'd love Leino. I agree he has benefited from playing with Philly's depth, but if we acquired him that is exactly what we could do with him. Put him as a 3rd wheel on Malkin's line and I can't see how he wouldn't produce as well if not better than with Philly. Or put him on the 3rd line with Staal and Cooke and we basically become Philly in terms of 3 scoring lines.

$3.75m for 3 years...He's basically their Letang in terms of solid young player on a great cap hit.
