Who wears the 'A's' next season???

offseason pointless discussion time!!!!

lets all assume for the point of debate that John LeClair is not a Flyer in October.

Two Alternate captain roles open...who gets 'em????

I would go with Desjardins and Kim Johnsson, assuming that LeClair is not back. If he is, he'll get the other A.

Assuming LeClair isn't here, I voted Kaps and Desjardins.

Desjardins for sure (he had one when Lindros wore the 'C' didn't he?), and I'd say Roenick. Roenick can fire a team up.

I think Sami Kapanen is a give in since he wore the A while Primeau was out of the lineup. I also think it would be a shame to not give JR an A. He is a great leader on this team as well and now there isn't really an excuse to not give him an A.

I highly doubt Desjardins wears an A because he went from the high pressures of a captain to just concentrating on his game and it worked wonders. There are better more inspirational players to give it to IMO plus since he gave away the captaincy once before.

Desjardins was the first to get the A if one of the captains were out of the lineup. Kapanen was the 2nd. JR never was given it. Hitchcock doesn't like his style of leadership. I doubt he'll wear it while he is a Flyer and Hitch is the coach.

My top choices would be Roenick and Markov, but considering Markov is still very new to the team I feel it would be a slap in the face to other players who've been here for a lot longer. So, my other choice would be Gagne, as he's been a great team player and sacrificed his individual stats for the team. I'd also like to see what he does with the new responsibility. It also makes sense as he's one of Hitchcock's favorite players.

I remember somebody (Clarke, I think) stating it would be pointless to give Desjardins an A when a spot was open last time. An alternate captain would have to fill in for Primeau, if injured and also take a lot of responsibility around the team, something Desjardins said he couldn't handle.

I think you are mistaken on this. Desjardins was captain when Recchi and Leclair wore As. There was never a time after Rico gave up the C that an A was available.

The players said Rico was an excellent captain and really cared about the players. He organized many events for them. Was really dedicated. Hitchcock always gave him the A when one of the 3 were out. Only when Desjardins was also out did Kapanen get the A.

Gagne in the future maybe, the same with Johnsson, but I have to disagree with Handzus, no reason, just don't think he's worthy of the A

JR & Rico.
Roenick deserves an "A" after all what he went through last year. This guy is a warrior and a leader. And Rico because he is a model for all the young Flyers. Plain and simple.

I think people are answering this based on who they WANT to wear the As and not who they THINK will get them. Hitchcock decides who wears them. He and JR don't get along. He will not pin an A on JR unless he is desperate!

No John L!!!

Gags & Rico

I chose gags because I believe the Coaching staff and BC are going to make this a big challange year for Simon. I feel that they are going to expect him to bloom into a leader. I probably over analyzing the situation but so what!

Kapanen was given the A when Primeau, Rico, and Roenick were out this year, I am not sure that Roenick would have gotten it over him if he'd been in the lineup. My guess is that Kapanen and Desjardins would be given the A's, especially after what Kapanen did for the team in the playoffs last year, and Rico for his time spent with the team and role as top 'defensive' dman.

That's what they did with Lindros and it was a mistake. Will they learn from the mistake or make it again?

I really don't think Gagne is ready for a leadership role. He's a follower.

I voted Johnsson and Kapanen.

Gagne should get it in four years, give or take one.

True but Eric was only 21 with 1 years experience when they gave him the "C". Gags is 25 with 5 years experience and we're only talking about the "A" (That sounds dirty)

On well, I'd love to see him become more of a leader.

P.S. When will HItch put Gags on a scoring line. The Flyers are wasting his skills.

Hopefully now Hitch will be forced to play Gagne on a scoring line. He's the ultimate utility player, but his offensive talent is wasted if he's not playing with creative players.

I'm not so sure Gagne will ever get a letter on his jersey. He just comes off as very quiet to me. I would love to see the guy develop into captian material, but I'm not so sure it's in his personality. I do agree with you Cuiffitelli, Gagne is not too young for it. Iginila isn't much older than Simon, and he's a Captian. A better example might actually be Lecavalier with an alternate, who came out of the same draft as Gagne.
