Saturday April 9th 2011 is the annual NYPD v FDNY hockey game at Nassau Coliseum. Usually is/close to a sell out. There are some legitimate tailgates going on. Some precincts have their own bands play, and theres a lot of food/beer around.
The game itself is very entertaining to watch. Very physical as you could imagine and always a great atomsphere. Tickets are $20 at the door, with merchandise tables and raffles being sold (until halfway through the 2nd.) Majority of the money goes to charity, including to the families/children of 9/11 responders who lost their lives. That being said, it is also the 10th year anniversary of that tragic day, so there will be a short ceremony with military personnel and FDNY/NYPD Bagpipers.
I've been going to these games for the past 10 years. Always one of my favorite events. I actually like having this at the Coliseum because you get a great tailgate atmosphere before and after the game. Also, the quality of play is much higher than a lot of people probably imagine. These guys are no joke, there is some good skill on display here.
Don't the Rangers play the Devils at the same time?

Yeah, bad scheduling decision on someone's part considering that so many of the people that go to these games are Rangers or even Devils fans. If we've clinched I'm still going to be there though, it's a great time.
