that would be very interesting. i hope he does well wherever he goes.
nice for axelsson to win a championship.
but other than axelsson, not a great set of playoffs for the prospects. larsson's, almqvist's and mrazek's teams were swept by weaker teams in the 1st round. jarnkrok and pulkkinen lost in 1st round, though to stronger teams. kelowna (callahan) and montreal (aubry and parkes) are near to elimination (both down 1-3 in series). sheahan's team was near the championship game, though.

pulkkinen was invisible the whole game, the only time i noticed him before his goals was because of his...ehm...odd skating, but he knows exactly where he has to be to get his goals.
but this game makes me even worry more about his skating. luckily another game tomorrow. maybe he'll be more involved the whole game.

Pulkkinen isn't the kind of player you "notice" every single shift. He's a goalscorer that finds the open space and can shoot the puck with brilliant power and accuracy. In other words, very atypical Finnish player.
If you want him to be flashy, you're going to be disappointed. If you want him to be effective in what he does, you're going to see something special.

Good post.
The tempo of the game was lazy and unphysical when you compared it to the SM-Liiga finals going on the same time but nice to see Teemu hitting numbers in the high national level too.

Yeah, his skating style is odd, but he isnt a bad skater by any means. IMO he was one of the better players puck-wise, I didnt see a single turnover. On the other hand Lahti, Aaltonen even Lehterä wer turnover machines compared to Pulkkinen. Teemu´s play has matured over this season and he rarely makes a bad decision with the puck.
As I´ve mentioned several times, Pulkkinen´s biggest strenght is simple: Scoring points. He doesnt dominate all three zones (or even offensive zone, due to his lack of size and speed), but he always seems to be in the scoresheet if given a proper chance.
It says its a 2year 2-way contract...and KCrushers said it was a one-way... what happend with his "inside sources".. now let's see who was right, nothing official yet it seems.
a month ago, how many people would have said we'd be offering Axelsson a contract at all?
Very few but I don't think anything has changed. He still has to either earn a spot in camp or 'suffer' it out in Grand Rapids. If he can do either I'll be very impressed. (and happy)

I don't disagree with that. Depending on the vets we let go, though, making the team next year might be possible. I don't expect it, but if he made it I'd be happy, too.
Pulkkinen din't make the cut for next week's national team squad.
really? i can't say he left me overly impressed against germany, but considering two lines and the whole defense was awfully bad, pulu was among the better players.
