I love the way Shero has built this organization's defense.

Mr. Goldblum is correct in his interpretation of what I'd meant by my comment.

It wasn't my intent to make a direct comparison between their potentials, talents, strengths, abilities, or what have you, but rather the time frame in which it has taken Letang's game to get to where it is now, and hoping that Despres' growth as a player (regardless of what his "top end" ends up being) follows a similar one.

Glad to hear that the kid is progressing well. Look forward to seeing him in the AHL next year which I imagine is where he will end up. Play most of the season in the AHL and be our #1 on the call up list.

Anyone know if he has filled out his frame any more since the start of the season? Because I remember thats actually one of the things on the short list of concerns with him was putting some size onto that frame.

I think Gormley could have won it, if not for his mid-season injury.

Let's hope he doesn't follow the career arc of fellow winner, JJ Daigneault.

While he was obviously never a star, I can think of a lot of names who've won the award I'd rather Despres not be like ahead of Daigneault's. At least Daigneault managed almost 900 NHL games played.

They are doing a re-do of the 2009 draft thread and Despres is in almost none of them despite accomplishing a lot more than some of the higher profile prospects.

Despres was on my short-list of guys I wanted the Pens to draft, but he wasn't at the top.

Glad to say it seems we picked the right guy instead of the popular guy.

The bolded part is the problem.

I browse the prospects forum a lot, and read a lot of posts on there. The one thing I've come to realize is that 90% of the people who post on that forum have never seen a single game of any of these prospects. So they regurgitate what they read about them, and come up with lists based on second-hand, and sometimes third-hand, information. In other words, most of those lists aren't even their own opinion on each player they listed and reasons why they believe they should be listed there, but rather a collection of names they recall reading about somewhere, sometime.

It doesn't phase me if he's not included on a bunch of lists made up by people who know about as much about these prospects as I do about who the best Cricket players are in the world. It only becomes annoying when they then try to explain why Despres is omitted, and end up spouting stuff that is either made up or makes absolutely no sense.
