Admittedly, Dominick and Rah had a good year with what they were able to bring to camp and they should be applauded for that, but that's one year so with all due respect, the jury's still out. I don't think they should be going out and overpaying for players like the Redskins do, but at least bring in some guys that are actually going to fill some holes rather than all these special teams players and third stringers.

Vinik & Yzerman, I trust.
Sternberg & Silverman, I trust.
The Glazers - not so much but at least they have a floor they have to reach. Problem is, can they do it?

An Ira Kaufman classic.

If you actually read the article, you'll see there's actually little that correlates to that kind of headline. He speculates based on "recent history" and includes quotes from Bryan dating back four months ago and "a few years ago". A lot of stuff has kind of gone down since then and 'recent history.'

He then goes on to speculate on a bunch of potential free agent signings.

Don't read too much into that headline.

Now, should we be careful and non-impulsive in free agency? Absolutely. See Garner, Charlie; Deese, Derrick; Steussie, Todd; Brown, Tim; Stinchcomb, Matt.

Well, I've been second guessing myself ever since Tim Brown said Tampa Bay fans know nothing about football....

I guess when our endzones don't look like characters from World of Warcraft, Tim Brown doesn't know what to do.

Eric Allen on ESPN said the Bucs should get Nwhatever Asogwhatever guy from Oakland (I can't spell his name) and then get Reggie Bush as well from New Orleans.

Based on Dominik's press conference that just ended I will be absolutely shocked if Ruud is re-signed and Joseph isn't re-signed. Dominik spent several minutes on talking up Mason Foster and how he thinks he can start.

He also mentioned how he hopes to be standing next to Joseph announcing a new deal "in the next couple days."

Not Florida sports related, but Jerry Meals pulled off what will go down as the worst MLB call this season. No freaking way that he was safe at the plate.

And if you don't know what I am talking about, it's the 19-inning Pirates-Braves game.

Well, I'm glad he feels a rookie is better than Ruud to start at middle linebacker. Hopefully our d-line can prevent them from getting near him and make him look good otherwise it's going to be a long season seeing Foster getting run over.

Can the Rays season just end already? They've **** the bed this month. Losing record against the Sox/Yanks when they had a chance to take care of their own business and move up, now they're getting worked by crap teams on the road.

At least the Rays got a hit today.

I really don't know what's worse: Losing 10-0, or getting no-hit despite being in the game in the ninth inning.

I would assume with the Indians getting Fukudome from the Cubs that there is one less suitor for BJ Upton, though there are still a few teams interested.

Well this team appears to have given up. Trade Upton already.

All I can only hope is the new power blocking scheme will be a better fit for Trueblood (and Joseph) rather than Mangurian's scheme.

We also signed Michael Koenen to a 6 year, Florida Panthers style contract. The good news is he's very good on kickoffs which Barth is horrible at and he should stop the revolving door at punter (6 in 2 years).

Koenen is damn good inside the 20 too.

But that was with the old kickoff rules

Didn't he have a couple shanks last year when he played us?....or maybe I'm thinking of someone else...

edit: just found the stats for both games....Koenen had 3 punts with the longest being 34 yards in the first game at Atlanta and 5 punts in the game in Tampa with a 40.8 yard average. Robert Malone actually out-punted Koenen in both games we played against them. Malone had 7 punts in Tampa with a 43.6 yard average.

Now we're paying him how much?

I'm very glad that the Bucs moved on but I thought that Ruud was overrated enough to get more than a one year deal. I guess most people realized that a ton of tackles don't mean much when you're getting dragged for extra yards against the run.

Apparently there must not have been a lot of interest in him to only get one year.

John Clayton says...

Quote:
Losers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs opened free agency with $52 million of room, but all they have done is re-sign offensive linemen Davin Joseph and Jeremy Trueblood. Their only free-agent addition is punter Michael Koenen.
He also pegged my Niners and the Giants as losers. The winners were Eagles, Cards, Panthers and Jags.

Of course, big free agent names do not a season make. They have to jell and they have to play well. Outside of the TB area, who could name a non-QB Bucs player from last year, yet there was a 10-win season.
