I don't think the Rangers will sweep. It might go 6 if the Caps get some lucky bounces. But the Rangers will probably take it in 5.

08-09 key Rangers: Zherdev, Gomez, Naslund, Rosival, Morris, Mara, Antropov, Redden, Drury, Dubinsky, Callahan, Staal, Girardi

13 names mentioned only 5 current Rangers. What does the 09 playoffs have to do with Gaborik, Prospal, Stepan, Boyle, Prust, McDonagh, Anisimov... etc. The 09 playoffs are irrelevant. That is like me saying,"oh we man handled the Caps 4 games to 1 in 94 and than won the cup." Stop dwelling on 09 this is 2011!! Throw out the paper the game is played on the ice. Let's go Rangers!!

I just don't trust Washington. New York's grinding game will frustrate the Caps stars, and the Washington doesn't have the depth to compensate. Rangers in 7.

I don't know why everyone thinks the Caps are such an offensive powerhouse they have the second LEAST GF out of the EC playoff teams. I don't know why people think the Rangers can't match there offense and are saying the Rangers have no shot based on points. Throw out Ws and Ls this is playoffs. It's anyones game.
The Caps are still considered an offensive powerhouse because they have greater talent than the Rangers. Their offensive performance in the regular season does not change that. For all intents and purposes, this is still the same team as last year that scored so many freaking goals.

It is well documented that the Caps went through some serious pains this season to modify their system to become more defensively-oriented, and it greatly hurt their offensive production as they learned to adapt to it.

Only recently their offense has finally begun to click again with the new system now comfortably in place, and the PP is beginning to click as well. Ovechkin and Backstrom seem healthy and are again comfortably putting up points.

You don't want to give up opportunities to the Caps, because they have that talent that will make you pay for it.

That they definitley do have. They have the household names but with the Rangers everyone steps up and pitches in. We might not have a 30 goal scorer (our top 2 goal scorers missed substansial time due to injury) but were middle heavy which isn't always a bad thing. If the Rangers had there top forwards healthy all year I think they would be recognized more for there offense. Lets say Gaborik and Callahan played around 75 games I think it would average to them getting about 22 points combined. Thats 2 more goals which would bring the Rangers up to 255 GF this year. That would only be less than Philly, Vancouver, and Detroit. But unfourtunately Callahan is out so that is big. But Drury is back so hopefully he can contribute like he did in years past.. A little side note, Claude Lemieux had two playoffs where he scored more goals than he did in the regular season. Anyone can get hot

Like two years ago, Rangers in 7. Far superior goaltending of Lundqvist will be the difference.

I think this series will heavily be dependant on whether or not Boudreau can keep up with Torts in the coaching dept.

Well the thing with NYR is, where are they gonna get the offense from? Gaborik has had an off year, Callahan is out and the Caps now have a fully intact defensive structure.

Not good for the rangers.

This will be a tricky series for Washington. Lundquist is absolutely capable of stealing a game or two. And the Rangers are a bit of a hit-and-miss team offensively. They have been shut out six times; they have scored once 16 times. They also have at least seven goals in six games. They have some boom-or-bust proposition players, most notably Gaborik, and you never know when some of those guys are going to put it together and put up seven goals on the board.

Gaborik is a really interesting proposition. He's a guy who traditionally has great games, not great seasons. That's one of the big reasons why he's had more than 30 goals only three times. Yes, injuries have been a factor, but far too often, Gaborik is a non-factor. He should be in the 45-50 goal range each year; instead, he has yet to hit 45.

Take out three monster games, and you're looking at a player with 12 goals in 59 games this season.

He had one stretch with eight goals in 10 games, but keep in mind that included were two hat tricks. He hasn't had that stretch of 10 goals and 18 points in 12 games that he's good for each year. I don't think that'll happen in this series, but it's something to be aware of.

I think Washington's just too good for the Rangers. I don't think the Rangers have the night-to-night consistency to beat Washington. They have the ability to knock Washington off. Lundquist gives them a shot, and they can score more than people give them credit for. The Rangers are more dangerous than the team that took Washington to the limit two years ago. But until we see more reliability from the Rangers' offence, reaching the playoffs will have to be good enough for the Blueshirts demanding fans.

Rangers are my underdog pick for the eastern conference. Got them winning in 7 in a very hard fought series.

Not good for the rangers.
They have an extremely balanced offensive game. Dubinsky, Boyle, Stepan, Gaborik, and Callahan all had 20 goals, with Anisimov potting 18, and Prospal really turning it on down the stretch. Drury, who is being extremely overlooked as a factor in this series, replaces a lot of what Callahan brings, as he was basically the original Callahan, except he's a better powerplay option if his game is up to the task.

As shown, the Rangers are a very inconsistent team - one night they'll score 7 goals against a top team, then they'll lay an egg against a terrible team. They seem to play better against good teams. Staal/Girardi sometimes have a terrible complacency issue, which is why it seems the Rangers give up a ton of goals to 4th line scrubs.

Didn't fare so well? We took them to game 7 despite being far inferior and this year we straight abused them.

I'll predict the Caps in 6 but you never know when facing a goalie like Lundqvist.
