This team has got me feeling like they will be all business and play hard in the playoffs.
I'll give the habs one game where they get all the breaks and fluke goals and wind up winning because of that.
Looking at the NHL leaders board, two guys that were (are) there, Thomas and Chara (+/- leader). These are the two guys that will take the team on their shoulders. Chara will be a beast, and the boos at the forum will only serve to stir the giant.
B's in 5, TT with a SO or two, Price gets pulled in two games, Horton/Lucic causing damage and scoring goals along the way.

Price was very good? That's funny.

I don't even think its possible for an NHL goalie to be very good and allow 8 goals.

In a 7 game series with every game being a huge game, the Bruins are definitely the team to beat. I'm sure there will be one or two games with fluke goals or spotty officiating but that's the beauty of a 7 game series; It allows for a few of those games to happen while still giving the better team a chance to win it for realsiez.

Whether that team is Boston or Montreal, we'll have to wait and see. I certainly give the edge to the Bruins. Montreal is decimated in terms of injury.

This is why I'm not a fan of NFL post season games. Sure it forces the team to give it their all on every game but if a guy is under the weather, or if it's just one of those days where every 'bounce' goes against you or there is terrible reffing, you could absolutely get boned even if you're the better team.

a 7 game series is long and tiring but it shows which team is the better team by the end of it. Usually.

You're right. No one besides almost 100% of the Habs fans...

The Habs are clearly the underdogs. The Bruins are better in every department and should win be it in 3-4-5-6 or 7. We'll see if the Habs are able to make another upset. If they do, there will be many heads to roll in Boston this summer...

This matchup worries me for many reasons.

First and foremost, the Montreal-Boston thing. In the playoffs, the B's usually find a way to lose to them.

The goalies. Price can steal games. Thomas has not been nearly as good in the last month or so and really had a hard time against Montreal this year.

Montreal is 8th overall on the power play, 2nd in the East.

Montreal is 7th overall on the PK.

Special teams are huge in the playoffs. Officiating may play a big role. That's never good.

Montreal will win at least 2 games at home because the officials will cave to them like they always do. Chara especially will be in and out of the box constantly because of 21,000 whining babies. I wouldn't be surprised if the series actually went 7 games because of that. And if you think about it, if this series goes 7 games and Boston wins it at home, that could be the best possible thing for them mentally.

I tend to agree. We all know that the Bruins have a hard time against small speedy forwards. Plakanec,Gionta,Camallerri,Kostisyn are all players that can get hot. The Bruins need to play disciplined game.

This will be difficult with all of the diving Habs. Good thing the B's PK is decent.

The habs got nothing to lose in this one.....that's the scariest thing for the Bruins cause the expectations are so high for this team.

No one in MTL really BELIEVE that Montreal is the better team....we all HOPE they'll win but it's hard to imagine.

Montreal has nothing to lose??? That is funny.

I'd also argue that expectations are much higher for Montreal after last season.

Those calls have a way of disappearing once the spotlight is really on that one matchup. You know this series is a powderkeg, and the league knows it too. The lid will remain tightly in place, forcing each team to either drop the gloves or play it cool. This favors Boston, as more Bruins are willing to go to blows than Habs.

While I would normally agree with you that in a playoff series, the Habs would take it over the Bruins, in the first round I think it still favors Boston. There's still that physical edge, there's still fighting, and there's still that sting of the whupping Boston gave them twice in the last two games.
Good points. But the powderkeg thing worries me the most. How does the league diffuse a powderkeg? By calling every ticky tack call imaginable. By calling "big hits" penalites and by keeping the physical play and the post whistle scrums to a minimum... That plays to their strengths.

I'm still pondering and researching (and thinking out loud...) I'll have to make a prediction on tomorrow night's radio show so I'll have an answer for you by then.

if the playoffs were not a 7 game series vs the same team every other day then I'd be more worried about the habs. You can wear down speed.

In their last 3 meetings, Boston has scored 16 goals, almost all of them on Price. I don't buy the argument that the Habs are simply too skilled or too quick. If this were the ECF, maybe I'd buy it, but it's the first round, where the play is just like the regular season on steroids. A goalie who turns into a sieve against Boston and an inability to match the Bruins physically doesn't bode well for the Habs.
yes, I am.

You've heard of "first love"? The Habs are my "first hate" going back to 40 years ago this week, so a good time to rekindle the hate.

As a fan I am very excited. If the Bruins ever get a cup in my life I want them to go through the Habs to get it.

As a Mod I am very afraid.
