Welcome to the bandwagon! Sorry your boys didn't get in - I was really hoping to watch Playoff Skinner. Of course, I was really hoping to was Playoff Skinner in Kitchener this year too, but what can you do?

Now, how can I dislike you with a D'Amigo avatar? You need to put Derek Roy or somebody in there...

FlyersGoalScoredBy is hilarious - one of my favourite blogs on the net, and their twitter is pretty good too. And then there's BernieParent... but he's just God.

start winning them? The team actually improved substantially when it came to face-offs. I remember looking about halfway through the season and we were around 47%. We finished at 50.3%, which is probably the only thing the Flyers improved on during the 2nd half of the season.

In comparison, buffalo is at 47.7%

When is Pronger returning? Will he be back in time for playoffs?

He will be in the lineup on Thursday. No official confirmation yet, but book it. Even if he can only play 10 minutes with one hand, he's better than Syvret or Boyton.

You might as well. The guy's a ****ing machine in the playoffs, and he'll be back by game three at the very latest. If you like the Flyers in the series, and the likelihood of Pronger returning before game three, it would be silly to not take him.

Oh I know for sure, I have the Flyers pegged for the cup so I'm definitely thinking of taking Pronger.

Interesting note about the match-ups. Of the top 4 seeds, only the Flyers won their regular season match-up.

Interestingly, just the opposite happened in the regular season games between the teams. Philly lost the two games in which they had the best faceoff margin of victory.

Reg. Season Game 1: Philly +2 on faceoffs; (W) 6-3.

Reg. Season Game 2: Philly +11 on faceoffs; (W) 5-2.

Reg. Season Game 3: Philly +12 on faceoffs; (L) 3-5.

Reg. Season Game 4: Philly +14 on faceoffs; (OTL) 3-4.

If there was a good correlation between faceoff wins and winning games, Buffalo would be challenging for the top pick in the draft. The Sabres suck at them. Oddly, they have Gaustad at 59.8%--which is 5th best in the league (min. 300 faceoffs)--taking by far the most faceoffs, yet our team ranks 26th in team faceoff percentage (47.7%). That should show you how bad the rest of the team is at them. Most of that is a product of having to play Hecht and Boyes out of position, as both are natural wingers and not centers.

In fact, as our team faceoff percentage got progressively worse as the season went on, or W-L record actually improved.

Also had a revelation last night. In a dream, Jeff Carter scores a game winning in OT. Dont know when or how, but just telling you its gonna happen.

Yes. . . 1 loss and one OT loss vs. 2 losses is considered a winning record by NHL standards.

Pronger not on ice at practice per beat writers. Starting to look doubtful he's ready for game 1.

Going 2-1-1 gets the Flyers 5 Points
Going 2-2-0 gets the Sabres 4 Points

5>4 isn't that hard to comprehend in a league based upon points. If this was the NBA or MLB or NFL, it would be 2-2 for 4 Points each where standings are based upon pure wins and losses instead of "loser" points and skills competition gimmicks.

I am giving a 95% chance pronger is on the ice for game 1. However if it is gonna slow him down in the long run is it worth it. If this team cant beat the sabres without pronger then we arent winning the cup anyway

I notice alot of sabres fun mocking that we think the flyers will "flip the switch".. What I dont understand is we came out playing hard likely because the team was motivated to not have to clinch on the last day again. Once it became a reality that they were going to make it they started to coast. The sabres obviously coasted through the start of the year, but the "turned it on" when they needed to win. Now both teams are at a point where its do or die, flyers are not going to roll over... did everyone forget about them turning it up last year? flyers are full of gamers who show up.

First Round Breakdown: Flyers-Sabres

Quote:

The Sabres have won the past two series (in 2001 and 2006) but enter this series as the underdogs against a Flyers team gearing for a return trip to the Cup finals. The two clubs split the season series two wins apiece, although Philadelphia picked up an extra point in Friday's overtime loss at Buffalo.

1. Limping into postseason: What impact will the Flyers' late-season struggles have on their playoff performance? After flying out of the gates and spending most of the season atop the Eastern Conference, Philly dropped 16 of its final 25 games (9-9-7) and five of its last six (1-3-2) to limp into the playoffs. Have the Flyers lost their mojo or were they simply biding their time waiting for the playoffs?

"They had a great year," Regier said. "They're a very good team. I personally don't read anything into any struggles they had down the stretch, because I know how quickly that can change when you get to playoffs as well."

O'Donnell has a theory on his team's late-season snafu.

"I wasn't here last year, but I really believe the situation with this team is that it lost a tough finals to Chicago, and the first 40 to 45 games this season, we were clicking on all cylinders; I think subconsciously the guys said, 'OK, we know we can do it and last year wasn't a fluke. Now we just want the playoffs to start and make up for what happened last year.' And I think we kind of put it in cruise control after that," he said. "That's not a good thing to do, but we got ahead or ourselves, looked forward to the spring and ran into a bunch of teams playing for their lives. We just didn't have that extra 10 to 15 percent that you need, and we lost a lot of games because of it."

Now, we find out if they can simply flip a switch and turn their A-game back on.
