I'd pair Brewer with Eaton, Malakhov with Timonen, and Hamhuis and Weinrich.

I dislike Weinrich with a passion and its mainly due to that stupid visor

I would agree. He has to wear a normal visor or he's outta here. Besides, it would clash with our third jersies.

Weinrich's too darn old! That visor probably has bifocals built in!

Weinrich has always been one of my favorite players, and if we could snatch him away from the Blues, even better!

He had a solid season last year, 80 games, 19 points and +12. He hasn't played less than 80 games since 98-99 (66) and 99-00 (77).

If we could get him for 1.15 million, DO IT.

Smokey is an assitant GM as well, although I didn't get to touch base with him, all that much (we have most of our discussions in hf chat).

Anyways, I'll make it easier to read

LW

Martin Rucinsky $1,925,000
Scott Hartnell $1,300,750
Martin Erat $660,000
Jim Mckenzie $650,000
Libor Pivko $500,000

- Jeremy Stevenson sits in the reserves, and can be called up to replace Libor if needed. I doubt that would happen, but Pivko may still need some time in the minors .....

RW

Steve Sullivan $3,000,000
Scott Walker $1,950,000
Vladimir Orszagh $770,000
Adam Hall $753,500
Jordin Tootoo $575,000
Mikael Renberg $350,000

- Obviously we have too many RWs that can play. Renberg can be sent down to the reserve as can Tootoo, but we may try and move Orszagh, and let Hall take his minutes.

Center

David Legwand $1,732,500
Greg Johnson $1,600,000
Alexander Svitov $1,130,000
Niko Kapanen $550,000

- Randy Robitaille was signed at 400,000 on a one year deal, but currently sits in reserve (i.e. minors/call up). The GM game is still not over, but realistically, he was only signed for his faceoff skills and as a depth center for the team.

Defense

Eric Brewer $2,500,000
Vladimir Malakhov $2,150,000
Kimmo Timonen $2,000,000
Eric Weinrich $1,150,000
Dan Hamhuis $1,130,000
Shane Hnidy $797,500
Mark Eaton $440,000

- The Weinrich signing was a mistake, and took place while I was away at work :/. I think at 1.15 million he is a great sign, however, Malakhov was the man we were hunting for. We had given out both offers, in case we were outbid, as we were not going to go much higher on Vlad. Since the signings are on a time period (and it doesn't tell you how much time is left before a player is signed......I couldn't retract the Weinrich one before it was too late.) Either way, though, I think our defense corps is immensley stronger, and likely our strength. On a side note, Eric Cairns was signed to a 350,000 contract to be the depth dman. Since he will not crack the top 7, unless we can deal Weinrich, he is sitting in the reserves.

Goal

Tomas Vokoun $1,320,000
Chris Mason $400,000

No changes were really needed here. Since Tomas loves to play all the time, we really didn't need to solidify our backup position.

How did we get here?

Trades -

1.) Keven Klien to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Alexander Svitov
2.) Marek Zidlicky and Scottie Upshall to the Edmonton Oilers for Eric Brewer
- This was our big trade, and the most controversial . I still like it, though, as we get a no. 1 dman with size and speed to compliment Kimmo who is small.....but logs most of the ice time by himself.
3.) Denis Arkhipov to the Dallas Stars for Niko Kapanen and Dallas's 2006 5th round selection.
- God I love this trade . We get smaller, but better.......and we get the pick. Svitov gave us a huge 2nd/3rd line center....and Niko brings decent faceoff skills along with a grinder mentality to our bottom line. Since Trotz likes to roll the lines anyways, he will get decent minutes, and he has the speed/skills to score some clutch goals (2003 playoffs anyone).

FA Signings-

Vladimir Malakhov - 2.15 million
Martin Rucinsky - 1.925 million
Eric Weinrich - 1.15 million
Randy Robitaille - 400k
Mikael Renberg - 350k
Eric Cairns - 350 k

Total Spent on UFAs - 6.325 million

Total Salary for the team - $29,334,250
Team Budget - $30,000,000

Not to shabby . We are under the cap, and significantly better . I think the acquistions can potentially answer several problems - Crease clearing, faceoffs, and size......to top it off, as a team we are still fast and skilled!
