Like a blues fan once said, Ryan Johnson is a good guy and all but you could send him out on the ice with a shovel and he'll score the same amount of points as he does with his stick

Yeah, sorry for the misunderstanding. Having Hughson and Simpson is kind of bitter sweet because simpson seems to hate the Canucks with passion. I would rather have John Garrett the lovable idiot.

I kind of like watching Craig Simpson smile...it's fascinatingly weird.

Since he's come back from his injury, he's been pretty consistent, but there have been a couple times where he has made some of those poor emotional decisions, like as you mentioned pinching on a 2 on 1.

In my mind Bieksa always is trying to find the line between playing too emotionally and playing too casually. When he's at his best, like he's been for much of this season, he is able to play aggressively but controlled, pinching at key times or making a great rush in the offensive end, while breaking up plays and making life unfun for forwards in front of the net. At his worst, he is either running around shockingly out of position, or too lackadaisical and making poor reads and turnovers in his own end.

It seems like the Canucks are more focused on the final goal this year, rather than on the Blackhawks themselves. Last year they were too focused on avenging their previous losses to Chicago, and were really wrapped up in it. This year it seems like they are treating them as just another stepping stone on their way to their ultimate goal. We will see!
Great observations here, +1

This is QFT. A lot of our success will once again depend on how Bieksa plays, because he will play 20min+ no matter whether he is sucking and costing the team goals here and there, or if he is playing good like he's been most of this regular season. The differences in playoffs are very small, and if you have one guy there doing stupid stuff and playing over 20 (important) minutes every night no matter what, there's a good chance that team loses by one goal instead of winning by one goal.

If he's able to keep his s*** together in emotional (playoff) games and moments, unlike he has done in the past, he also earns a raise for next season in addition to the success in playoffs and Gillis would probably try to sign him. If he, however, does s*** his pants in critical moments like he has done in the past, and that includes things like stupid penalties, pinching, positioning, just general decision making on the ice, he probably won't be back. If you can't play responsible and with emotion at same time, you need to control the emotion and let it out smartly without hurting the team.

Even if he did play well I would still question the "contract year" situation, try to use it as leverage since the last time Bieksa played this well was also in his contract year, but all in all I'd be willing to bring him back if the raise is around 0.5mil at most. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds, it's make or break time for KB3.

It's quite funny seeing Johnson and Wellwood's comments this year when these were guys that at the end of last year made it clear they wanted to stay in Vancouver, and then both went half the year without an NHL job.
