I loved Boogaard in his limited time as a Ranger. I got excited every time he was on the ice because he actually tried to hurt people with his hits. Not to mention he was bringing more offense then I expected, and actually created a few opportunities.

Wow. Feel terrible for the guy, but feel great for the Rangers. Free's up anothor $1.875 million, probably enough to re-sign Anisimov right there. Leaves more cap space to add Richards!

I know it won't happen, but if the Rangers somehow got rid of Avery, Boogard, and Drury, they would have an additional almost $12 million in cap space. Add in the assumed amount the cap will go up (About $3 million) and that's $15 million to work with, before subtracting the salaries of Frolov, Feds, Prospal, Gilroy, Eminger, and McCabe (Pro-rated).

Hopefully Redden walks away from his contract as well this summer.

Well if he does in fact retire, I would feel much better about flipping a pick for Chris Neil at the draft. Neil-Boyle-Prust I think could be a very memorable NYR line.

If his cap hit wasn't 2 million, I wouldn't either, but that's too much to pay on a 3rd line forward when we need the scoring.

Hope he doesn't have to retire because of this. Despite his tough guy roll on the ice, he's one of the nicest people in the community. He does a lot of charity work and he deserves for his career to not end like that. I don't like the contract, but don't want to see it come off the books like this.

I'd take the 400k difference between him and Boogaard, plus who knows what will become of Avery this offseason.

We end with, say...

Christensen-Richards-Gaborik
Dubi-AA-Cally
Wolski-Stepan-Zuccarello
Neil-Boyle-Prust

I think that fits more than easily under the cap.

One of the highlighted things is not like the others.

Replace Christensen with Prospal, and I'm on board!

We can do that.

I still think EC is worth keeping around as an extra forward for plugging in/ shootouts. He's cheap.

The fact that he didn't come back at any point or even show signs of recovery (we literally heard NOTHING about him all season) showed me that this was going to end his career. You tend to hear at least some minute things about recovery if a guy is coming back.

Really? I'm not really for or against hem, not the biggest issue. But him bringing some offense? Must have passed me by...

That's what I saw. Carkner grabbed him and tossed him on his back and his head hit the ice. He got up and skated right off.

Dagoon has come here before with this kind of info and it's turned out to be right on the mark. If Boogaard can't play--Rangers will need to cut ties. I think they could use some more toughness though.

That sounds good to me..I'm shocked this thread has stayed classy..The guy deserves at least that..I absolutely loved the signing and am sad to see him go if this is true..Sure it was too much money but Sather went after the best most feared fighter out there..It just didn't work out..

Didn't He get concussed after being body slammed to the ice by carkner, not being punched. Would figure the source would know that.

Anyway I feel realy bad for the guy.

I agree, for the price and the odd game where he plays really aggressive - he's a bargain.

As for the original topic, I feel bad for Boogs. I might be in the minority but I'll never forget him sailing down the wing and rippin that shot top corner. I jumped out of my couch cheering and both laughing at the same time. It was a great moment.

I would have liked to have him around for every other game when needed, not a full time spot. But that's how things go sometimes.

I don't mind EC as an extra forward. However, penciling him in on the first line is a sign of desperation. Prospal shouldn't be expensive, and he's a much better option for a first line, imo.

Draw up the paperwork and fax it to Sather, glad we could get the lineup decided so early.

Oh Paulie, won't see him no more.

Let's see what happens. If he's not in the KHL or Walmart you've got some 'splainin' to do.

I don't doubt what Dagoon is saying but as an aside Boogaard HAS been skating before the team at the Training Center as late as mid-last week.

I had the very same question last week and he is still having some bad days related to the concussion.

if he's not playing top 6 then he's only good for shoot outs. IF we get a number 1 C move him out for a late pick.

Boogie really does'nt fit on the team anyway

I really, really, really hope all these goon debacle disasters are over now. They haven't brought anything to the Ranger teams and just swallowed money. Huggy Bear, Boogaard... stop signing these dead weights. Team toughness and identity comes from guys like Callahan, not staged, meaningless show fights.

I obviously feel bad for Boogaard and his career, but a useless goon is a useless goon, regardless if he plays or not. His contract was awful.
