Oh, and fyi, the season begins now for Johan Franzen. Everyone knows what he's going to be doing this postseason, like every other postseason. The Coyotes simply don't have a chance even with Zetterberg being out for the round.

Nobody is mentioning that heading into the first round last year the Red Wings had played into the finals 2 straight years and the conference finals 3 straight years, were injured all year and had to put it in high gear just to make the playoffs. They were gassed before the playoffs started. During the PHX series, on one of the internet streams that stays with the broadcasts instead of going to commercial, the guy between the benches was heard talking about how the wings were worn down beyond belief.

Injuries have still been a problem, and the coaching staff did a terrible job making sure the wings were at least in sync heading into the playoffs, but the Wings had a long summer to recover, and I think there was a conscientious effort made all year to make sure that each player has as much gas in the tank as possible from day 1 of the playoffs.

I'm expecting Phoenix to play a really high tempo game like last year, but I think this weakens their organization as a 5 man unit. Guys like Rafalski and Kronwall will be really key in retrieving pucks and getting them out right away, as well as picking apart the lapses in the neutral zone.

Detroit had to gut it out and play the Coyotes game last year, I think there's a better chance that the Wings will dictate the play eventually this year. First game or two I think Detroit will have to hang on like they did in the 1st against Chicago today, but by the end of the series I think the Coyotes will be cracked. If Detroit can weather the storm and win the first two it'll be a quick series, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them at 1-1 or 0-2 going into Phoenix and still winning the series.

This year we have one of the best defensive corps in the league. An offense that while not explosive, is servicable and is one of the deepest in the league. Everyone is healthy and HIGHLY motivated, plus add in Zetterberg will miss game 1 and who knows how many more?

Detroit got worse and older. Coyotes got better, deeper, and younger, but lost home-ice.

Yotes in 6
Detroit is better then last year....

Wings in 5, the Wings have the advantage at every position besides goaltending.

What i want = Wings in 4
What I predict = Wings in 4

It's not that I don't like Phoenix.
It's just that the harder the Coyotes fall, the better chance they get up in Winnipeg

Red Wings in 5.

The Coyotes are a very well-coached team with an excellent goaltender, which allows them to overachieve relative to their roster. But they simply don't have the offensive firepower to do much damage against the Red Wings. People make a big deal out of Doan for some reason like he's some playoff warrior, but his playoff career shows absolutely nothing to warrant such consideration.

These are words that a team like... oh say the Maple Leafs... would love to hear.

Wings in 6, but I don't think they'll go very far this year. They've played poorly defensively and Howard gives up too many juicy rebounds.

IMO this is the most likely upset in the west. The Wings are the heavy favourites, but the Coyotes have the coaching and goaltending to steal a series.

Helm Abs and younger players are better, no Lebda which is a HUGE plus, Hudler, finally a rest after 3 straight years of looooong Cup runs, even with Zetterberg out they are healthier. Not saying the Yotes cant/wont win but last years Wings was the worst in a while. I think this will be a really good series. Phoenix played in the best division in hockey they wouldnt be here if they werent good.

Did you watch the series last year? After last year, and the state of the franchise, Doan is going to be in pure beast mode. Everyone can talk about Bryz, but watch Doan lift Phoenix on his shoulders. This is his redemption after the injury and series loss.

It's clear you don't watch much Coyote hockey or even the series last year, but a quick look at which team has the most 10+ goal scorers should give you the answer you seek.

Yeah, he scored one goal in 3 games. I know he made a funny face afterwards that looks cute in avatars and GIFs, but as someone who has watched the Red Wings battle players such as Peter Forsberg, Joe Sakic, Scott Stevens, and Patrick Roy in the playoffs, it takes a lot more than that to impress me. Doan's "beast mode" has resulted in anything tangible of real note. I know people are desperate to make him the next Messier or Iginla or whatever because he does the whole LOUD leadership thing, but if the guy lifting Phoenix on his shoulders is a 70 point scorer rather than their Vezina-level goaltender, I'm not too worried.
