This was the same thing that was said last year, as well as that Doan would feed off the playoffs last year and take it into this season and he hasn't. Detroit has more depth, they've gotten rid of their weakest defenseman, gotten back Hudler and their younger crash line guys like Helm and Applegator have more experience. As others have said, this is Detroit without having three years of long playoff runs with lots of their star players also playing in the Olympic tournament as well.

I don't think that Phoenix did themselves any favors by falling into the bottom half of the playoff seeding and the loss of that extra home game will hurt them. For all of those Phoenix fans that had the heebie-jeebies over facing San Jose and were begging for the Red Wings......Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.....

Huh? Doan had a huge bounce back season after being nearly invisible for two months last season and having injury problems.

So I don't watch a lot of Coyote games (actually, never) but I noticed that they only have one 20 goal scorer. Do they play a defensive, grind-it-out type of game?

I hope Phoenix wins but it's hard not to assume that Detroit will easily win if they can get 3 past Bryz.

Yes, but it is partially a talent issue as well, no denying that.
They play the game they have to; which is heavily dependent on Bryz and not taking stupid penalties.

Detroit 8 wins, Phoenix 7 wins the last two years, including the playoffs.

I just don't see how people can still doubt the Coyotes. This series will be close. Phoenix is better than it was last year, and the Coyote killer Zetterberg is hurt. The only thing that concerns me is home ice, and whether Bryz ****s the bed again. I don't think he had his best series. We now have bigger defensemen in Klesla and Rozsival to get guys like Holmstrom away from the net.

If the Coyotes were to win here that would be almost as good as watching my own team win in the playoffs, almost comparable.

After a few weeks of griping over our lackluster play the effort displayed against Chicago makes it hard to argue that this team doesn't have an extra gear they can shift into.

Wings in 6 games; 5 if Howard really steps it up from last year.

Detroit should be able to beat Phoenix without Zetterberg. Provided everyone returns and stays healthy.

Detroit in six

You got to laugh at the red wings fans that are trying to down play Doan's performance from last year. I was at game 1 and he single handedly made the Wings wet themselves every time he hopped over the boards. But hey, whatever makes you guys sleep better at night.

I can guarantee that Doan isn't going to respect Howard this time.

Wings in 5 or 6 depending on when Z comes back.

I wouldn't say anyone is trying to downplay his performance from last year. You're right, he was freakin' scary to play against. Gave 120% every shift and had a ridiculous amount of hits. Too bad he hurt himself though. He's going to be even more hungry with more to prove this year so he definitely can't be overlooked.

That said, I don't think the rest of the Yotes roster is as good as last season. Bryz wasn't as incredible (but still quite good) and Yandle stepped up big. I don't think it's an easy series by any means but Detroit is better and more well rested than last year.

Howard will be the reason why this series goes to a game 7.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg will win Game 7 for the Wings. Wings in 7

The prospect of the wings in the playoffs without Zetterberg's playoff beard putting to shame the scanty, barely evident mustaches of the Crosby's of the world who still have milk in their veins, will be something unusual for me and to be honest, before yesterday's win over the blackhawks, downright frightening.

I think this will go the distance, and with Z's return the Wings should overcome a once again gallant and pesky coyote's team.

Here's to a good series!

Oh right, then his reckless play got him injured.

Oops.

There's no denying that he gives maximum effort on every shift, but to somehow think that he's some sort of god-like figure that is going to change the entire series just by his own actions is laughable. I'm sorry to say that, but it is. His "huge bounce back season" saw him barely reach 20 goals and score what....five points more than last season? What about all of the Coyote fans who were convinced that he was done after the first month of the season and were calling for his head? There were a LOT of those floating around here, but that seems to be forgotten all of a sudden.

If you guys are looking for someone to hang your hat on in this series as the player that can make the difference, I would count on Bryz. He's at least got the talent to take the team on his back and steal the series. Doan has the heart to do it, he's just not the type of elite player that can just screams "danger to score on every shift". Great player yes......player that every team is "afraid" of....nope. These are professionals and I don't think anyone is making anyone wet their pants, no matter how much you hate the Red Wings...

I hope doan runs him if the situation happens again this time. Doan is too good of a person to do that, though.
