The NHLPA has told agents that the union projects a salary cap of approximately $62.2 million next season if the players vote to trigger the 5-percent escalator, Slap Shots has learned.
That represents an increase of $2.8 million from the current $59.4 million cap, or approximately 4.7 percent. This means that, 1) the NHL's "record" revenues have not increased by the 5 percent the players voted to bump the cap for this season; and, 2) the cap would remain flat or even decrease slightly for the first time if the players opt not to adopt the inflator for next season.

That statement is wrong. The growth in the cap shows 5.4% growth, not 4.7%. You have to look at the growth of the midpoint, not the cap, to understand revenue growth.
And if Holmgren is smart enough to ditch Leighton and Walker again.
And how much Nodl and Powe will make.
There is a lot of work to do in the offseason, and we know how Homer handles the offseason...
I'm normally a Carle supporter, but after having a career year in assists, +/- and without Pronger to rely on throughout the year, his stock will be as high as it possibly can be. Hopefully he can be traded for a serious pick or young talent.

I can't really see them ditching Leighton unless they go out and sign another #1, and even then they'd probably trade Bob. It will depend on the playoffs most likely. But Walker, yes let's hope. I'd personally waive Shelley's useless *** too but that ain't happening.
Nodl will make less because Homer will give him a 1-way contract. He currently makes roughly on avg $700k a season when he was up with the Flyers, but with his bonuses, his cap hit was $850k. Homer should give him a 1-way deal somewhere around $650k.
As for Powe, he will probably get s slight raise, probably $750k for 2-3 years
if we go with Bob & Leighton as our goalies, we're in trouble. Move Versteeg and whatever else is needed for cap room and go after Bryzgalov

Bryzgalov would be also but Leighton is also just barely hitting his prime.

Bryz and Bob would be ideal for Bob's development, a Russian mentor. Not to mention I'll take his numbers any day over Leighton or Boucher. (SV% .921 GAA- 2.48 SO- 7) If we could somehow get him in at the cost of Versteeg I'd be down.

And you want to trade him? What if he has a full year of Pronger next year? His numbers may even be higher. His production merits his salary, I don't see Homer trading him at all. More points than Timonen at half the cost. +30. Young...

I have argued a long time that his numbers merit his salary. I will just ignore the Timonen part though...
Yes I would trade him, because he is going to be UFA the year after and I don't see us re-signing him. Plus his number were better this year with Pronger out of the line-up oddly enough, so his value today is the best time to trade him and try out some prospects.
You can never really have "enough" point producing defencemen, but I just find Carle to be replaceable, especially for the return he can garner.
What I'm trying to say is, his return > his value to this team. IMO.
but Leighton is also just barely hitting his prime.
This can't be a serious quote.

Bryz is the guy who I'd love to see us get. Not sure what it would take to get him though.
I also have always liked Vokoun. Not sure if he will fall into our price range though.
Carle is gone for draft picks or bad/decent prospects with intangibles.
Powe and Nodl will probably make the same amount of money.
Betts has another year left?
Carcillo, Zherdev, O'Donnell, Walker, Boynton, and Boosh are all gone.
Not sure if I want Leino back. I'm also open to cutting ties with Versteeg as well.
So the roster looks something like:
JvR - Carter - Roo
Hartnell - Briere - X
Nodl - Richards - Versteeg
Powe - Betts - Shelley
Pronger - X
Kimmo - Coburn
Mez - Gus/Bart
Bob
Leighton
Missing anything there?
I think that's about right. I see Sestito replacing Carcillo for next season. Maybe shoot Powe up the third line and stick Sestito on the fourth? That's just me though. It will probably be a battle among Wellwood, Sestito, Holmstrom and any other prospects that may surprise out of camp (or maybe the Flyers will sign a cheap Euro player like that did with Pyro last year and try to make that work). Wasn't there some chatter a little bit ago about signing a guy that plays in Finland and used to play with Leino?

Please tell me, how the hell would signing Bryzgalov, an undisputed number one starting goaltender with the capability to go on absolutely elite runs, would be ideal for Bob's development?
Your reason (because he's Russian) is like saying apples would be ideal for grass growth, because they can both be green.

Are you serious?
I think this supposes that the two are duking it out a little more, possibly splitting games. I kinda doubt Bryzgalov buys that, but in terms of Bobrovsky's development, having a top-end goalie to learn from who speaks Russian and can really communicate with him would be huge.
More than likely Bob will be our starter and having someone like Bryz here for a few years might hurt his development because he would be getting less and less playtime because of Bryz. We just need a back-up goalie and either Boucher or Leighton should be the one, considering they are already in the system, but if I had to choose, Boosh easily.
