Thank you Jacques. Enjoy retirement and I hope what you've taught Kovy he can keep for life.

Say what you want, Lemaire is one of the best NHL coaches of all-time.

Absolutely. Lemaire is the most important coach in the team's history.

I hope we don't need him again like we did this season, but it was very gracious of him to come out of retirement to help Lou out. Thank you, Jacques.

I don't think you could leave Marty off the Devils Mt. Puckmore.

We won cups without Lemaire, we didn't win any without Marty. He's gotta be on it.

The way I see it:
Without McMullen you have no Devils, you have the Rockies or some team moved somewhere else. He set the entire franchise up in New Jersey and ensured it was successful by hiring Lou. I chalk up things like team name, colours, etc. to him (so the non-hockey identity of the team).

Lou ... obvious architect of the team and mastermind behind the style of play together with Lemaire. Created a culture of "winning means everything" for the team and gives the players every opportunity to achieve that within reason.

Lemaire ... design of the game plan that, though tweaked, has been followed by every coach since he started. It further gives the team its identity.

That leaves one spot for either Stevens or Brodeur, both of whom are the face of the franchise. I go with Stevens. Others go with Brodeur. I just can't see either of the two as important to the overall organization as the three above. Players have always been cogs in the wheel of the organization. They are the two most important cogs, but are cogs nonetheless.

absolutely, 100% agreed with this. a giant lemaire robot who is perpetually coaching the huge hockey player thing outside would be hilarious. but since the innernets is serious business, i would very much like to see his philosophy memorialized

I would not be opposed to putting something in the rafters for Jacques. Or a statue, as Ronnie suggested.

Kovy is sad about this and so am I

Problem is Lemaire was going to leave after next year anyway, I really hope this team can function without him.
