Hey Hiway
I've been thinking the same thing for a while but thought would be excessively flamed by nuck loyalists. Have to agree that Bert may have played his last game on March 9th of this year.
Who knows but he may of even asked for a trade somewhere far away in a different division
Florida would be the ideal place for him. Keenan likes him and he likes proven veterans...
but doubtful they will give up on Luongo..
How about bert for horton and a few other players or picks

I take it your a Canucks fan?

Best goaltender in the NHL, a couple of good young players for a package consisting of a power forward who has been charged with a criminal offense, a goaltender who has cronic groin problems and hasn't performed in the playoffs, a #3 d-man and a #5/6 d-man?

Florida trading its future minus Bouwmeester for an overpaid power forward, a top 15 starter and two average defensemen...

Florida stands to take on about 9 million dollars of salary in that deal.

I can see a deal involving Bertuzzi to Florida which could make sense for both teams depending on whether Florida is willing to bump up the salary substantially. Bertuzzi for Stewart and something, sure, but not Luongo for Cloutier. Any GM who traded Luongo for Cloutier would face institutionalization.

Just carrying on this thought. Were Florida to get Bertuzzi for Stewart and a first (say), the dollar savings would be such that the Canucks could then pursue trades for Kolzig (dangled by Washington for Cloutier at the trade deadline -- the holdup was that Washington would not eat any salary), Thornton (rumoured to be unhappy), or both, if you let Cloutier and Morrison go respectively.

The scoring power and salaries would be a wash, but Kolzig in net seems like a strong upgrade to me, and Thornton would be a huge upgrade in the middle.

why do people always bring up olaf kolzig. the day that guy plays a game in a canucks uniform is the day i eat my jersey. HE IS NOT GONNA BE A CANUCK. hes no uprgade on cloutier at 6/m a year. i dont see bertuzzi being traded for prospects, that would totally cahnge the team and we could kiss any chance of naslund sticking around good bye. this is a team 1 or 2 pieces away from making a huge playoff impact and todd bertuzzi is not an expendable piece.

And ive never ever seen it confirmed anywhere that the canucks were going after kolzig in the first place. the canucks organization said there was no basis to those rumours whatsoever. Whenever a goalie is brought up as a potential trade victim, it seems vancouver is thrown out there as a possible taker just becauase of cloutiers playoff performances

Let's not rebuild again, shall we?

I'd like to have a chance to win the cup in the next 3 years. I think we have the proper core to do it.

Where do I sign. To make the deal even sweeter.

throw in a 2nd or 1st pick for that package.

Then, Canucks would cut its salary subsantially, and using those extra $$ to sign a 2nd line winger + 2 depth D, while having one of the best young G!

Done and Done!! Where do I sign..

Canucks would rebuild big time with that. Only upgrade is in goal. Aside from that the Canucks lose two solid defenseman with only one coming back. And Mezei is a big downgrade right now. If the team was rebuilding, go for it, otherwise it just seems to me like taking a few steps back when the time to win is now.

i'd gonna go out on a limb here and say that roberto luongo maybe the most untouchable player in the nhl right now, IMO

Let me get this straight, you DONT like this proposal?

-Franchise goalie and budding powerforward for Bertuzzi, Salo, and Cloutier. Id do it in a heartbeat.

Same here...

Luongo? We become a instant contender for the cup...just like that!

Luogo = Brodeur

Panthers won't trade Luongo, even with Keenan at the helm. I can see the Panthers being very interested in Bertuzzi if he became available though. Just for the hell of it, what about something like this:

To Florida

Todd Bertuzzi($7,133,133 )
Brad May($900,000)

To Vancouver

Olli Jokinen(around $2 mil)
Nathan Horton($1,240,000)

I doubt the Panthers would trade Horton, but I think this is what it would take for the Canucks to move Bertuzzi. I don't really think the Panthers make good trading partners though.

No. In fact, I think we get absolutely taken.

I don't see Luongo as being the be all or end all goaltender. In fact, I don't even think he's a top 5 goaltender right now. I know, that's sacrilage on this board.

This may surprise and shock you, but I wouldn't move Bertuzzi for Luongo, or Salo for Stewart, or Cloutier for Horton, or Malik for Mezei.

Being younger is not necessarily better. And on HF, guys like Luongo and Stewart are continously overrated.

Let's try to figure out what else would happen if we did this:

#1 - We no longer have a #1 right winger, our top 6 looks way, way weaker, and we have potentially lost the best player in the NHL (when he wants to be).

#2 - Naslund probobly leaves, he doesn't want to go and rebuild.

#3 - Stewart & Mezei doubtfully make the lineup.

This is more 'Younger is better' stuff that just isn't the case. Count me as somebody who wants to keep our core guys and go far with them unless we get upgrades on them RIGHT NOW, not 5 years down the road.

I don't see Bertuzzi being traded to Florida, but if he were, that would probably be a pretty good deal for both sides.

Actually as much as i love Horton as a player this is what i would offer the panthers

Bertuzzi
May
2nd round pick

for

Jokinen
Bouwmeester
6th round pick

Florida would never trade Luongo let alone with Cloutier coming back as the replacement.

Laughable, Bertuzzi is great but, Horton and Stewart combo will be better.

But you guys need to win now anyways. Like it was said I don't think we would be good trading partners.

Luongo to Vancouver... :lol

Yeah right.

Even if a trade looks good for the Canucks, that doesn't mean they should do it. Trading away Bertuzzi for young players could have detrimental effects on the team in terms of its chemisty and all that. Naslund might leave because of it.

The trade proposal obviously favours the Canucks, but it still wouldn't be a trade I'd like the Canucks to do.

Funny guy...
The best player in the deal is going to Vancouver.
3 of the 4 best players in the deal are going to Vancouver.
Only future is going from a re-building franchise to a contending team.
One of the worst proposals I have ever seen.

Florida would reject Bertuzzi, Salo for Horton alone.

Florida wouldn't reject that, that's foolish to even suggest they would. Wake up.
