ugh

Sorry that I missed him. I knew I missed somebody but just don't know who it was. Add him in the next

but to be fair... I thought that #1 will be Hull (or maybe Mikita).

No contest. I think it may be better to declare Hull as the best and pick the best of the rest. In that case, I think it would be a good fight between Stan, Wilson, Larmer and perhaps add Savard and Roenick to the mix.

As for Hawks best goaltender: Glenn Hall.

PS... apparently the Bentley's were dam good.

I'm planning on voting for Hall as 2nd best player, then Mikita. Hall was the key to the '61 championship and his records/stats are mind blowing.

I would like to add Charlie Gardiner to that list. Stellar goalie for the Hawks back in the day and led them to their first Stanley Cup as the captain. He played throughout the finals very sick and died at the age of 29 just a few months after winning the Cup due to brain hemorrhage. He won 2 Veznia Trophies and was a 4 time all star (3 first team, 1 second team). The most underrated Blackhawk in my opinion.

Hull, Mikita, Hall, and possibly Pilote, in that order. After that it's a dogfight.

Stan was pretty damned good and stayed through it all for 22 years (some real crappy ones at the end). Art Ross, Hart, Byng, tons of all-star teams and all for an undersized kid shipped over from Europe to duck the commies. He may not have been the force that Bobby was on the ice so maybe Bobby was our greatest player, but, imo, there is no greater Blackhawk than Stan.

Send a message via ICQ to DisgruntledHawkFan
During their tenures as a Blackhawk is a clear condition, or Peter Bondra would be on this list.

Hard to do this poll in reality as most of us are too young to have seen the era of guys like Hull/Mikita , etc

But I went with Mikita as I found from watching old games and reading up on him that he played a more complete game (Suprisingly his D was not good upon entering league)

+ Mikita was a Hawks for life and to me that should count for something

As a hockey playing boy growing up in north suburban Chicago, Hull was The Man. There was no doubt as to who was better, and though Mikita wasn't far behind, Hull's goalscoring was so far ahead of his peers that he was truly a dominant force in the league for over a decade. Think a better Ovechkin, and perhaps you're in the ballpark. And Hull was reasonably good defensively.

Hurts me still how stupid Wirtz was for letting Hull go (Mikita was a "Hawks for life" just because of the relentless grief Wirtz took for letting Hull leave Chicago). Just imagine if he put up 2-3 more big seasons, then a few more good to average seasons, what his NHL totals would have been. 700 goals quite easily, and 750 goals perhaps. Wirtz became the Wirtz you knew and hated when I was growing up.

FWIW, here are links to the HOH section and intelligent discussion ranking players.

Fight over the rest of the order if you must, but there really is no question as to who is "the best Hawk ever".

Letting Hull go was an early indication of the tight wad that old man Wirtz was. Little did we know at the time just how bad it would get in the years to come... love to see that Rocky has righted the ship. Hull himself has stated he was lost before the Hawks invited him back to the fold.

However Hull’s signing was a tremendous boost to the WHA and got the league off the ground. I must admit, it was fun to watch Hull playing on the Jets with the young Swedes, Hedberg and Nillsson. What a prolific line in any league!

As I think about this more, currently a much better Ovechkin is to Hull, as a better to much better Backstom is to Mikita. I know who I'd choose on the Caps, and there's no doubt who I'd choose for the Hawks.

I hope you're not implying it would be backstrom...

Of course not, and I wouldn't take Mikita over Hull. I believe I've made myself quite clear in previous posts. There is absolutely no doubt that Hull was better than Mikita, and even as a boy I could tell the difference between the two.

I am implying that Ovechkin is Hull light, and Backstrom is Mikita light.

I got the analogy, but wasn't sure who you would go with because I hadn't read the whole thread
