Veteran Michael Cammalleri, though, was typically blunt in assessing his team’s fortunes in the playoffs.
“I’ve never entered a hockey game in my life that I didn’t think we could win,” Cammalleri said. “So, for sure, right now I’m thinking we can win a Stanley Cup. But at the same time I’m very realistic about the fact that we haven’t been a great team as of late. Probably all year we haven’t been a great team. You have to do exceptional things to win a Stanley Cup. We really have to step it up.”
Also, a Gomez quote:
“Let’s face it, a lot of us have had years where it’s been like, ‘What the (expletive),’ ” Gomez said, “and you can probably put me at the top of that list. I hope I don’t get into that mode where I suck all season and then the playoffs come.”
A couple days old now, but I don't remember seeing it posted. If it's a duplicate, please delete or merge.
It's good to see that the boys are fully aware that they have to step up their game. Here's to hopefully beating those ****ing Bruins and having another great playoff run.
The key is going to be the first 2 games in Boston. We need to win at least 1. I think if we can come back to Montreal 1-1 or 2-0, the series is in the bag. If they go down 0-2 to Boston, it's over. Even if Montreal wins the next 2 in Montreal to tie the series.
I think this team really can beat Boston, it's going to be a hard battle, unfortunately after the 1st round I just don't see us having much left in the tank
You really never know what can happen in the POs.
It can be a really hard battle, with every game going to OT, and still end this in 4. It could be a very tight series that end in 4games. It doesn't have to go to 7games.
Last year we faced Washington in the 1st round, came back from a 3-1 deficit. We got bombarded in that series. Certainly, no reason to have some fuel left in the tank, but we had.
Also, what is true for you, is also true for your opponent. Every team will be battling hard. Winning a series is rarely easy, and even when it is, it doesn't mean jack once you move on to the next round.
Boston, as the 1seed, beat us in 4 last time we faced them, in 08-09, then they faced the #6 Carolina, who had a tough battle vs Jersey that ended in 7games, and lost in 7.
So really, there's no reason for you to think we'll be out of gas as early as the 2nd round.
Also, maybe another upset occurs, NYR or BUF goes through. Then we will square off versus the Pens or TB, and I feel we match up fairly well versus both those teams.
Going to the CF again is far from being unreachable.
What I like about Montreal is they have a lot of leadership in their locker room mixed with some youthful enthusiasm. Boston doesn't have much for leadership look at that 3-0 choke job last year while the Habs came back against Washington and Pittsburgh.
Bruins have more talent.
Habs have better leadership and coaching.
Its nice to see that the players realize that they have under-achieved all season long....but its what they are willing to do in the playoffs to make it right that really matters.
Its one thing to admit you had a bad season, its another to change your game around and be a much better player in the playoffs. We'll see how the players react in game 1.
The whole team needs to be better all around. If they can all play like they are capable of playing, we'll hammer the Bruins in 5 or 6 games easily. If the Habs just phone it in, they'll be gone in 4 games.
Yeah, but we've been buried in the second round two years in a row. Lose to the Canes and choke to the Flyers. It's getting old. And if you do bury us, you're gonna have to earn it.
As a habs fan obviously I'm behind my team and think we will bury you guys
But as a hockey fan I agree with your point about both teams getting ****ed in the 2nd round as a result of how tough this series is going to be. That having been said I'm just glad we're the 6th place team and not the 3rd place team with a bunch of hype that made some crazy deadline moves.
All the pressure is on Boston. It could be a good thing, it could be a very bad thing. We'll have to wait and see. One thing I think we can all agree on, we're all extremely excited about Thursday!
That being said, all the match-ups this year are amazing. It's going to be one hell of a post season!
