Who has been our best defenseman?

I got into a discussion at work the other day about who our best dman has been this season.

I was arguing that it was Subban, he's been there offensively and has played big minutes all season. For me the biggest thing though has been the fact that he's been matched up against the other teams top lines, and his time on the pk.

Everyone else was saying that it was Hamrlik, stating that he's a plus player and plays more minutes(when i looked on nhl.com their average icetime per game is equal @22:16). Hamrlik has the edge on even strength ice time whereas Subban has the edge on special teams. I also think that its important to mention that Subban's ice time has increased as the seasons gone on as Martin has begun to trust him more.

So who do you guys feel has been our best defenseman this season?

I like Hamrlik a lot.

He's not flashy but pretty reliable.

Over the length of the entire season you can probably say Hamrlik has an edge, but from news years onwards I think Subban has easily been better.

Hamrlik. I understand the logic of saying subban, but he only has 4 pts more than hamrlik, a worse +- and Hamrlik went against tougher opponents. It's simple to me.

I sometimes think people seem to ignore just how many assists Hammer chalks up.

Thats exactly what the guys at work were saying, I disagree though. It seems that Martin always puts Subban and Gill out against the other teams top lines, plus they're also out for the first pk unit. As for the points, i agree that Hamrlik is underrated with how well he chips in offensively.

I forget the website, but i'm sure someone knows about that statistics site about level of competition. That will either prove is disprove my logic.

I think Hamrlik has been the best dman over the entire season, but Subban has probably been the better one as of late. I can understand why anyone would go either way. Hamrlik does not get enough respect for what he's been doing.

Hamrlik has been really solid for us and I would love to have him back next year.

PK Subban gave this ream an unexpected help back there by playing very well much sooner than most "experts" said so he's to me a revelation and the best at D this season.

Hamrlik. Subban was almost as good but Hammer was more effective, just a lot less flashy.

Gotta go with Hamrlik. Subban is flashier which makes it seem to some that he was our better D, but I don't believe that to be the case. They both were very effective though, but Hamrlik has the edge imo. People seem to forget what a good D Hamrlik. He has his bad games, but that's usually because he's being overplayed. With a healthy lineup and good minutes, he's a really reliable D.

Hammer really held the fort in the 1st half of the year when we were desperate.

Subban has turned it up big time in the 2nd half.

Who had the better season ? tough to say ; who's better today ? Subban, no questions asked.

Funny, you get sane threads like this one and meanwhile you have a bunch of others where everyone assumes Hamrlik will be dumped. Considering Hamrlik has said he wants to return at a salary lower than his current 5.5 (not that he would likely get 5.5 anywhere else) I would expect the signing to get done.
