Not news to anyone really given the circumstances

Ledger_NJDevils Rich Chere
No contract talks yet for parise but he says he'll be back. "For sure. I'm restricted."

it definitely is not really news, but i wish we can post it on the trade board to (hopefully) end all Parise offer sheet proposals.

Sounds like he's anticipating getting arbitration.

We can't think about offer-sheeting players in the playoffs.

In all reality, I don't see the Devils doing anything BUT bringing him to arbitration. But the main board doesn't understand that and everyone thinks ZOMG HE'Z GONNA SIGN WITH DA LEAFZ LOL.

How exactly do you get that from this statement?

He has said to TG previously that he is interested in a long-term contract. He might expect to be taken to arbitration, but I don't htink he'll get to his hearing.

Maybe its the homer in me but I think this doesn't reach arbitration. There's no reason to not hammer something out during the postseason, especially if the cap does go up as rumored.

Since I didn't see the other quotes, interpreting this short statement would make me think he's anticipating staying in NJ only due to being restricted. Probably the way the pre-quote tweet is worded, too, though.

They don't need to REACH arbitration, but you and I both know the Devils will sign up for it. They will just try and hammer something out prior to the arbitration date.

Lou would have to be insane or Parise outrageous with his demands for him to reach an arbitration hearing. Lou has to know that letting a player get to arbitration is a sure way to lose him in the future, and I doubt he wants that with Zach.

Of course the Devils will sign up for it if there's no deal by the deadline to file but I don't think it will get to that.

The deadline to file is on June 15, I believe. The hearing would then be some time in July or August.

That's not true at all unless he planned on strong-arming Parise, which I highly doubt. If both parties are amicable during it, there is no reason to believe it would cause any animosity.

If you actually think that is true, I guess Lundqvist isn't a Ranger anymore.

That was my entire point. The Devils will sign up for it and go from there. Hence anticipating arbitration. He will have no one to sign with but the Devils either way.

Plenty of time to negotiate. I really don't understand what the main board obsession is with Parise leaving as a RFA. It's not going to happen.

Devils will offer arbitration. Parise will understand why. The Devils will sign Parise to a very reasonable 4-7 year, 6-7 mil per deal before it gets to arbitration.

Giving Parise a one year contract and delivering him right to UFA eligibility is an unacceptable result to the fanbase, and I suspect Lou wants him locked up for longer than that too. I wouldn't be surprised if they do elect arbitration in order to block offer sheets, but I'll be very surprised if he actually reaches the hearing without a contract.

I just want Lou to get it done before July 1. If he reaches July 1 without a contract, there will be a ****storm of stupid posters on the trade board saying that their team should offer sheet him.

I think my pick was 5 years 6.5M, IIRC.

You don't see many players not make it to July 1, though. I would anticipate a deal sometime in July based solely off of past RFA stuff. The bigger names tend to take longer to get their names inked on a contract.

Parise seems to think it will get done quickly. Of course, Kovy said that too, so who knows for sure. My guess, however, is that Parise's demands are not as complex and difficult to fulfil as Kovy's were.
