Hey, it's just some friendly (at least on my end) back and forth. I know you guys wanted to knock us out in the worst way, so turnabout is fair play, no?

Parise seems to think it will get done quickly. Of course, Kovy said that too, so who knows for sure.
Let's not forget the first Kovy deal took less three weeks of free agency to complete. It was the NHL big men that dragged the process out by vetoing the contract, then extending deadlines upwards of 15 times for the hearing or whatever happened.
You have to figure that the Devils 2nd half success, without one of our top players, which was Parise himself as shown him that this team can be successful next season, especially if Lou can add a player on defense.
Kovy was also a UFA, able to entertain offers from multiple teams. Parise is not, and since he is negotiating solely with Lou, I think it will be done faster.
Agreed. I'm just not a fan of when people say that Kovy's deal was long and dragged out as if it was his fault (not saying you did this, but many people may misinterpret what you were getting at which is a staple of HF.) The Kovy deal was made at a reasonable rate, it was the guys upstairs that turned it into a seemingly endless saga.
So do we think the negotiations for Parise's contract will be finished within 3 weeks? Faster? Slower? When does Lou announce it?
Depends when negotiations start. Kovy's deal was signed on July 19 or 20 I believe. I think Parise will be done much sooner than that. Given the team's season ending early, I think going beyond the first week of July would be slightly surprising, but as seen with Bobby Ryan, it can become a lengthy process. Ultimately I see a similar result - landing him somewhat long term.
I'm leery of team-elected arbitration. The only way you do it is if negotiations are going very well, and you and the player are on the same page of "let's just get rid of the distraction". Otherwise you are punching Parise's ticket out of town for nothing 12 months later. Better to have an offer sheet come in and then be able to shop the player for trade or at least be guaranteed assets or a contract you can match then to serve up unrestricted free agency on a silver platter.
All that said, I'm not that worried. I wouldn't be surprised to see a deal done before June 15th
