Your Projected Line-Up For Next Year?

Just more curious than anything on where Marcus Foligno fits in with your overall plans?

He'll probably be in the second last round of cuts from the team in next year's camp. No chance he's on the big squad unless major trades happen and he becomes a complete player over the summer(not likely).

Marcus is a gamer who seems dead set on an NHL career in the bottom six....but not yet.

We're hoping that Marcus and Kassian become really good friends and play together for a long, long time.

He'll definitely be in Portland for at least one year and if he pans out, he'll probably be a long-term fixture in the team's bottom 6.

OT, who is that in your avatar? Looks like a shaved bald Devin Townsend.

I think Kassian might make the team next year.

All signs from the organization and his late-season tail-off point the other way.

Foligno is definitely NOT making the team out of camp next year. Just too many guys ahead of him on the depth chart.

As for Kassian, am I the only one who thinks he is massively overhyped?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: he needs to learn how to become a professional.
The team has too many wingers as it is.
If they need a RW, sign a free agent as a temporary solution for a year or two because Kassian should not be making the team next season.

As for Foligno, like others have said: Portland next year no doubt, he will probably join the team on an ATO after Sudbury is eliminated by Mississauga.
If everything goes right, he will carve out a bottom six role in the NHL for himself in the next few years.

I've been called crazy... pause.... but I've got a feeling/hope/suspicion that both Kass and Foligno are going to make the team.

Marcus should at least make it a tough decision. His motor runs constantly, great leader/teammate, loves to crash and bang, and can put the puck in the net. I'd love to see a 4th line of kids... MF-LA-ZK... reminds me of 89-90 and the Oilers' kid line...

If Stafford isn't traded--and I don't think he will be--Kassian has virtually zero chance of making the team. Seriously, where is he going to play? He's not beating out Pominville, Stafford, or Boyes for the top-9 RW positions, and this is not an organization that would keep up a 1st round pick to play 8 mins per night on the 4th line (plus, Kaleta has that spot if he's healthy).

His game isn't good enough yet for the NHL. And you know what? That's okay! He's 20, and has tons of time to develop. More and more it's looking like his great start to the season was an aberration created by his preparation for the World Juniors. Once that tourney ended, he's been inconsistent and uninterested on many nights. As someone said above, he needs to learn how to be a professional. I'd make him live with Foligno in Portland, and room with Matt Ellis on the road. Maybe some of their work ethic would rub off on him.

I think unfortunately unless Connolly takes a pay cut we're gonna need that salary space for any chance to get Richards.

I just want another guy besides Kaleta that can destroy someone and fight, and that has a little offensive upside. He was one of Canada's BEST players in the WJC. He just has to stop being a little **** head. I think he really just wants to get out of juniors.

Maybe at some point fans will stop taking guys from the CHL and tossing them right onto NHL rosters.

That rarely works.

Stop rushing these kids. Kassian and Foligno start in Portland, where they should be.

No, around mid-season I was considering re-thinking my stance on Kassian. That maybe he was going to be a top 6 guy, and that his talent went beyond simply "but, but, we need a gritty guy who can score, so he's our top prospect."

I do think he's a bit overhyped, and that some people's expectations for the kid are way too high.

This. 1000% this.

The kid has already won everything there is for him to win. He's shown that his game is at another level where juniors just isn't a challenge for him anymore. He just wants out, which is why he looks disinterested a lot of the time.

Put him in Portland next year and I bet you'll see a completely different player.

I don't see Kassian, Adam or Foligno leaving Portland much next season. They'll get plenty of time to develop.

I guarantee the moment Connolly has another bad game all of these recent re-signing sympathies will disappear. Not that I agree that they should, just that they will, because this is HF.

The market for centers next year is very dry. There are no good UFA's besides Richards, and its unlikely we will find a GM stupid enough to trade a #1C away. The postseason might prove otherwise, but it could be that our best option is to keep Connolly.

Realistically I don't think we outbid LA or NY for Richards, so the lineup would look basically the same as this year. I don't view this negatively, as our roster is young and will likely improve itself over time.

Ennis Roy Stafford
Vanek Connolly Pominville
Gerbe Hecht Boyes
Cody Goose Kaleta

Possibly exchanging Goose and Hecht or Gerbe and Cody to put Goose+Gerbe together. Kassian, Foligno, etc spend the year in Portland.

That said, the above roster would be wayyy under the cap, which I'm sure Terry wouldn't like. I'm a little worried that we make a massive overpayment in assets just for the sake of splurging our excess cash, like LA did with EDM.
