Anyone have any interest in doing a Stanley Cup Playoff Bracket?

I would consider organizing one for the board, any interest?

Who made it last year? Was their scoring successful etc.?

I was thinking something like:
3 points for predicting the winner of a series
2/3 points for predicting the amount of games
1 point if you picked a 7 game series but are on the losing side.

5 bonus points if you picked either the whole Eastern or Western Conference correct (just winners, not games). 10 points if you get both (obviously).

Thoughts?

I don't see the problem with 1 pt for choosing the winner and 1 pt for choosing the # of games. You've got to pick the winner to get credit for the # of games. Basically you're just choosing winners like a typical NCAA bracket but the picking the # of games will separate people. Simple, with a tie breaker of something to do with the finals (# of goals scored or something).

I just think it would be cool to add the game 7 dynamic, that I have above. That way, you'd get 1 point for that and 2/3 for the winner/series. In theory, you are really close to getting the series correct if you have it going to "7 games". Just my two cents though.

I run a playoff pool every year where you simply pick the winner of each series, and the number of games the series will go. You earn 1pt for each game you are off by. Lowest score at the end of the playoffs wins.

We had 14 people in it last year, and naturally some guys end up with the same amount of points, so we also keep track of "perfect picks", and use them as tie-breakers. Higher number of perfect picks the better.

It's really simply, and quite interesting. Each series really counts in your overall score. If you guys are interested, I think we can all do the honour system thing here, and post our predictions before each round, and then report our points accumulated at the end of each round, and then somebody (OP perhaps?) can post the rankings.

I'll go first, if we're doin' this.

Tweed: (0 pts - 0 pp)

(#8) NYR 0 vs (#1) Was 4
(#7) Buf 1 vs (#2) Phi 4
(#6) Mon 1 vs (#3) Bos 4
(#5) TBL 3 vs (#4) Pit 4

(#8) Chi 2 vs (#1) Van 4
(#7) LAK 1 vs (#2) SJS 4
(#6) Pho 3 vs (#3) Det 4
(#5) Nas 2 vs (#4) Ana 4

If you usually run it, that is more than fine with me!

which ever system you decide to use, im in! ftr, the first system sounds like it could be more exciting, but that could just be the bigger numbers!

I do one every year with a friend for a case of beer. The way we do it is you determine the winner in each round, up until the cup winner, and the games totals. For every round, the game total is 1 point, because even if we messed up who won, we can still get games. For the winner, point totals are doubled from the previous round. If you screw it up, afterwards you can change it, but you have to start all over at 1 point.

Example:

NYR
------------ Wash 7
Wash

Pitt
------------------ TB 5
TB

If Washington wins in 7, it's 2 points. When TB loses in 5, it's 1 point because I got games, but picked the wrong team.

Also, because of NHL playoff reseeding, if two teams you had winning the 2nd round are all of a sudden playing each other, you can pick one and still get the 2 points.

Every year my friend picks the Sharks, and every year I win. hahaha

I've done the NHL.com one for the past couple of years.
