Would not be shocked if all the Gomez haters, JM/PG haters bandwagoned on the new team right away and decided to give it a 5-10 year chance to see what happens.
Would not be the slightest bit shocked. The habs would still sell out every game and the new team would still be better than at least 5-10 teams, maybe even more. Believe it or not a lot of people would probably become fans, especially people from QC if they don't get the Nords back.
Many U.S. teams didn't know either what Hockey was. I heard that during the first game ever in Raleigh, people wanted to call the police when they saw the players fighting on the ice. They didn't know what was happening...
People in Pheonix, Florida, Nashville knows about hockey as much as we know about cricket...
No thanks. Who's going to cheer for a team that has no history, when the most historic franchise in sports history is in the same town?
We have enough bandwagoners that will dump the team and pick it up again. Problem is all the fans of that team would be temporary. At least we'll know how erratic our fan base is based on their attendance
Bring back the Maroons. They can play at the Olympic Stadium.
They were our city's forgotten Stanley Cup Champs, as described in the book I read "The Montreal Maroons; a city's forgotten Stanley Cup Champs".
Apparently the rivalry was HUGE. It had a big Anglo/Franco edge.
The Maroons built the Forum, The Habs were playing at the old Westmount Arena...one day...the Westmount Arena mysteriously burned down...yet all the Habs gear got out in time, as it wasn't in the building for some reason. The Habs had a lease there and were trying(unsuccessfully to get out of it). They then moved to the Forum with the Maroons.
The Maroons could draw better than half the teams in the league if they returned, no matter where they played. We can finally retire Nels "Old Poison" Stewart's number.

That would be awful for the city. Probably be comparable to the secatarianism seen in Glasgow.
Where would the team be located though? They'd have to do better than the east end, that's for sure.
