Hello all, I come in peace. Just wanted to to tell any and all that come to our fair city welcome and have fun. Be sure to be civil and not obnoxious and you'll be just fine.
If the urge possesses you to interact with us locals just be ready with a friendly icebreaker and all will be well. Some include obvious ones such as "Hey that Bobby Orr was the best playah evah", or "Man that Neely really used to own Roy", and of course "Thomas? pffft, shoe in for the Vezina". How can any B's fan do anything but love you after that?
And for our Francophone friends let me just add....

Here's to a great series and a B's win, or a Habs loss, whichever comes first.

p.s. i can't believe some idiot in the "how many Habs fans in Boston" thread used my ID to post this in that thread. sheesh.

I'm bilangual with English as my maiden and French as my closeish second, I have no idea what the hell that said haha
Felger's from Minnesota, not Boston, so you might be on to something there.
As a Bostonian, I find Felger's schtick pretty entertaining and enjoy listening to him from an entertainment perspective...but not a hockey perspective. While I appreciate that he tries to push a hockey agenda even if it's not what I would label intelligent hockey talk, it's all we have here so I'll take it.
You live here...you know what it's like. Hockey is still truly a niche sport here; even of that niche, it's a smaller subset that really likes/gets hockey versus the chest pounding yahoos that are just loud and proud Bostonians. THAT'S Felger's target audience, and that's who he plays to...hence the over the top Montreal bashing.
I perfectly understand who he's targeting (although he seems to genuinely think what he's saying about Montreal, the guy seems quite xenophobic, about Canada as a whole, European players (not playing for the Bruins) in general, etc.).
And the sad thing is that I ALSO liked him, in the sense that I found him entertaining. Not intelligent, but honestly that's not really his role lol. He actually talked about hockey and you see that he LIKES the game, even if he's a massive homer. And I think he's actually good at giving interviews, he's not afraid to ask real questions to Neely and Chiarelli (although sometimes he goes over the top with trying to push his agenda and ends up making them say whatever he wants), and I love actually listening to these 2.
But the last 2 months left me a pretty disgusted taste about him because it went overboard for me. Starting to push a theory that Pacioretty and the organization exaggerated/faked the injury and keeping it going for WEEKS based on an article that said he MIGHT be back for the playoffs (which he won't be in the end), the non-stop vomitting on the Habs, their fans and the city as a whole... I mean, I like listening to them talk about hockey just cause, well, at least they're talking about hockey. But 90% of their hockey talk turned into Montreal bashing, and EVEN if I was not from Montreal I'd think he was just getting repetitive and irritating.
Anyway, just venting now I guess. Not many people I can complain to that have a clue what I'm talking about, and complaining to Bruins fans likely doesn't help, but I've been annoyed that a show I enjoyed listening to because I found it entertaining has just become aggravating to me for 2 months (well I basically turn it off about 5 min in anytime they start Montreal bashing).
why is it that hab fans have to be 'careful' in boston? do bruin fans have to worry about getting the **** kicked out of them or get urinated on during a game in montreal? fans are fans. i was at the sweep two years ago. i saw games 3 and 4 at the BC -and the few bruins fans there (and at the pregame outdoor party) were loud and proud. no one got in their face in or outside the arena. i find it ridiculous and cryptically threatening that some bruin fans feel the need to issue warnings about behavior. here's a warning: instead of making fun of hab fans calling 911 go lecture your fellow fans on not over-drinking or yelling threats / xenophobic comments at hab fans
First off, too much has been made of Boston's dominance in the last two regular season games at Beantown. Faahgett it! (As they say in Massachusetts.) You won't see much fighting or wide-open play in this series—not with two defense-first coaches.
And don't read too much into Boston's Mcilroy-like collapse against the Flyers in the 2010 playoffs—likewise for the Habs' unexpected run to the Conference Final. This is hockey and the past is simply that—past.
Special teams are critical in the postseason and Montreal is one of only two playoff teams to finish in the top eight in both the power play and penalty kill. (The other team is the Vancouver Canucks.)
If the Habs can use their quickness to disrupt the Bruins' forechecking, the penalties—and goals—will come. But the Habs must avoid taking the kind of stupid penalties that plagued them all season long—the team's 546 minutes of penalty time was by far the most in the NHL.
Expect key contributions from Carey Price and Michael Cammalleri. The Franchise carried the Canadiens on his shoulders all season and he'll have to turn it up a notch if his team is to get past Boston. Price is capable of stealing a game or two and if he does, the Bruins are headed for the golf course. The leading goal scorer in the 2010 playoffs, sniper Michael Cammalleri had a woeful regular season that saw him net only 19 goals. The good news for the Habs is that he seems to have found his lightning-quick release in the final weeks of the season.
But the X-factor to this series is PK Subban. Already Montreal's top defender, the 21-year old netted 14 goals—the most for any rookie defender this year and tied Zdeno Chara for 9th best among all NHL defensemen. With Jacques Martin finally
giving PK Superstar time on the power play, his blistering slap shot makes the Montreal power play even more lethal. He's still prone to making mistakes when he tries to do too much, but blueline partner Hal Gill should keep him focused.
Subban likes center stage and there's no bigger venue than the NHL Playoffs. If Montreal beats Boston, the 2011 Stanley Cup Tournament could well turn into a coming out party for a future Norris winner.
I'm going with the audience, Regis. Habs in six games.

If we did beat Boston and somehow Buffalo beat Philly, wow this would become quite the post season. Buffalo, Pittsburgh/Tampa, I'd like to face any of those teams, even though I'm not 100% confident we would beat them, I'm 100% confident we can beat them.
Buffalo to me is the real wild card of the east. Anaheim out west will come back from that loss I think.

Your venting is 100% valid. As a Boston hockey fan, I find Felger amusing. As a hockey fan in general, I think he's a dope.
Boston sports radio is like the New England weather. If you don't like it, wait 5 minutes and it will change...being a 4 sport town makes any and all sports coverage around here have ADD.
Soon enough, Carl Crawford's BA w/RISP and John Lackey's ERA will be the topics du jour, so we all have that to look forward to for the next 6 months.
Heading back to my board now, I want to stay away from here on game days and now that the series has started. I would wish you luck, but, we both know I'd be lying.
But AK is a big, fast tank. And If I was JM, I'd tell him to hit Chara. Hit him again. Keep after him with all your might. Make him look for you every single time the puck goes in the corner. Just keep at him.
AK should throw his weight and strength at Chara every chance he gets. Cleanly and meanly. Might do no good, but at the very least it'll really bug Chara, distract him, and it'll hurt.
Mod edit:
I'm quite serious on this, I'd sick AK on him. Much faster, strong and big. Chara can be worn down, he needs to be worn down, and AK is the guy to do it.

In general the best way to beat Chara is to make him move his feet, he is not very quick. They should hit him every chance they get, same for Kaberle, though he has not done much in Boston.
Though it's not a huge part of our game, our big players need to finish their checks...AK Darche Eller Moen Gill PK Hamrlik Wiz White etc
IMO more of a chance that our players make him look slow and or lost on the ice then actually throwing him off his game physically. Its worked before and im sure it'll work again

Exactly, no need to try to wear down Chara physically. First, you won't succeed, he's way too big and strong and second, you'll just wake him up.
What the small fast forwards need to do is attack him with their speed... sadly, we have a bunch of scared, soft forwards who rather stop at the blue line than attack Chara and the other big slow defencemen with their speed and skills.
...but if they grow a pair in this series, they could very well dominate the Bruins and make Chara look like a massive pylon.
Wrong. It's a Habs that hit a Bruins. It's a dirty weasely play, and AK didn't even drop his gloves with Chara right afterwards and so is a coward. That's what this is according to a lot of Bruins fans.
I really agree with whoever said : let the Habs play the Habs game. Make him look silly with speed, that makes him mad a whole lot more than hitting him (although I agree that AK should hit him if he has the chance, just don't go out of his way to do it).
See what I mean? Thanks dude, that video is proof positive that AK is the man.
AK is the one guy big enough, fast enough, to catch Chara unawares now and then. It''ll make Chara watch, it'll make him think. And AK will be on the ice against him more than almost anyone else in this series.
If we could get a better version of this vid and photoshop Chara's face on the glass... I might consider getting an avatar for the first time ever... this is priceless.
