The Falcons opened the regular season on the road this weekend with 2 games.
Game one was in Manchester, NH on Friday. It was a horrible disaster. Losing 5-2. The defense was brutal, very brutal. Leaving Paul Dainton out to dry with multiple breakaways. Enough with that.
Game 2 was Saturday night in Albany, NY. A quick 2 hour drive and I was there to cheer on the guys.
The Falcons won 6-3 behind a solid performance by goaltender Allen York.
Albany opened the scoring on some lackluster play by John Moore. He was standing on the side boards while Brent Regner covered 2 Devils.
Aaron Bogosian opened the scoring for the Falcons with a slaphot that beat Jeff Frazee of the Devils. Assist to Ryan Garlock.
Nick Holden scored the Falcons 2nd goal on the PP. Assists to Martin St. Pierre & Rooster, Alex Giroux. Nice puck movement on the play to set up Holden's goal.
Brent Regner took a wrister that beat Jeff Frazee to put the Falcons up 3-1 in the 1st period. Assists to Mike Thomas & Ryan Garlock.
Nick Drazenovic continued the Falcons scoring just 1:27 into the 2nd. He was in the crease and shoveled the puck passed Jeff Frazee. Assists to Dane Byers & Adam Mair.
Cody Bass put the Falcons up 5-2 on the PP. Again Frazee was down after making a save and Bass put it past him. Assists to Brent Regner & Nick Drazenovic.
Dane Byers closed the scoring for the game. Knocking in Nick Drazenovic's rebound. Assists to Drazenovic & Cody Bass.
A few notes...
Cody Goloubef was improved from last season. He showed better positioning. Also made several good plays on the PP to keep pucks in when he was left alone at the blueline. Two of which led to Holden's goal.
Dane Byers had a great play to end the 1st period, making a clear on the PK. Helped break the Devils flow on the PP.
Alex Giroux was not very visible for most of the game.
Byers - Drazenovic - Bass were easily the best line. Energy and hustle all game.
Allen York's recovery from saves to move post to post was slow, needs to work on his movement, unless it was an off night.
Allen York had 27 saves. He also had a scary moment when falling behind the net while the Falcons were on a 5 on 3 PP.
The Falcons are back at it this weekend with 1 away game Friday @ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and 2 home games. The opener Saturday v.s. Providence & Sunday v.s. Manchester.

If John makes some nice plays, I will say nice things.

Seriously though, he almsot seems like he doesn't care at times. JMO of course, not the JMoore of the 1st half of last season, hope he can get it together.
