Kings 2010-11 AHL Monarchs and ECHL Reign, Prospect Update Thread II

Considering we've got an overflow of "PROFESSIONAL" level prospects for the Kings and Manchester this year, some of our prospects may even end up in Ontario, and it would be cool to see it all in one location.
Hence this thread, to match what 'SAM' has done on the CHL, NCAA, Euro side of our prospects.

REGULAR SEASON STATS
L.A. KINGS 2010-11 PROFESSIONAL (NHL, AHL, ECHL) PROSPECT Update Table
Los Angeles KINGS, NHL
/ Manchester MONARCHS, AHL / Ontario REIGN, ECHL
MONARCHS TEAM RECORD: 63 gp 37-19-2-5 = 81 pts = 64.3 win%

Just got back from the game - what an AWESOME game! It was nice to see the Monarchs actually get the lead, and keep it for good. They started out great and kept the pace throughout the game. Justin Johnson had two fights - one-punch KO on Emmerson in the first one. Emmerson actually stumbled and fell on his way to the box (he was still a little "punch drunk" lol). He left the box shortly after that and went down the tunnel, but he did return later on in the game. He certainly got rocked by Johnson. Second fight was Johnson and Gallant - pretty even bout but I'd give the edge to Johnson. Johnson also added a goal tonight. Moller broke in and was awarded a penalty shot - he was actually tripped twice on the same sequence by the same guy. He scored on a nice move to put them up 4-0. The second period pretty much put the game away - all 4 goals were scored pretty quick, the Sound Tigers just couldn't keep up. I actually felt bad for their goaltender who was in net for all 7 goals tonight - not doing much for his already inflated GAA

Just some side notes:
The wave broke out in the arena and I've not seen a wave like that in years! It went around the arena about 4 times, then we had a breakaway and the wave died We didn't score on that breakaway either

The puck hit the jumbotron twice. Never seen that before. It rarely hits it once in a game, let alone TWICE

Three Stars:
3 - John Zeiler
2 - Jeff Zatkoff
1 - Oscar Moller

I really thought Johnson would have gotten at least 3rd star (Gordie Howe hat trick) but he didn't - he really played a great game tonight.

Good win by the Monarchs, certainly needed that given the way the team has played the last several games. Probably the best game I've seen Johnson play and we need that since we don't have a single healthy forward to scratch. Jordan Hill played great on defense, Campbell can be sick for the rest of the season for all I care. Zatkoff had a great game to and that's a plus since Jones hasn't been the same since the All Star game.

Now on to a really important game in Portland this afternoon.

I could see Moller on the top line with Penner and Kopitar somewhere down the line, playing more of a puck distributor role. But so far, Williams seems to be clicking with them.

Good job Oscar. Nice to see him coming into his own a little. Shows what can happen when you give a kid the proper amount of time to develop.

With williams signed for another 4 years, im hoping to see moller be able to take smyths spot on that second line after next year. I think a 2nd line of Moller-Schenn-Brown could be a pretty good line in a few years (or through toffoli or kozun in there if they continue to develop). But I still have faith in OM, and im hoping dean lombardi does too

A-Mart definitely has the advantage but you're right, it's going to be an awesome competition.

I think you are right in that A Mart has the advantage. I think Voinov has high value, and should be traded. Sooner than later. I'd love to see him get a shot, but with A Mart'z play and Doughty/JJ established, there's little room for an undersized puck mover. Especially one as volatile as a Russian prospect in general. Not saying he doesn't have NHL dreams, but just has more options than a kid from NA. He should fetch a late first, early second. My only fear, is that once we trade him, he becomes the second coming of Zubov.

I'd say that VV reminds me more of a young Visnovsky than Zubov with the exception of Vis having more poise. The skillsets are similar in my opinion. He should be given a shot with the Devils, he would do really well back there. I could see us working on something that would send him to Long Island first though.

Davis will likely be dealt in my opinion. I wonder if there were any deals at the deadline that had Davis being moved that got changed at the last minute or something like that. I have to believe that he will be dealt.

Either way one of them will likely be dealt during the offseason. If its VV the return would be pretty good on his own but either or I could see a package deal happening more than a solo one.

VV is an exceptional talent and is ready to begin his NHL career, he still needs work but brought along as a 7th and eased into the line up that he will be established as a valuable young pmd for us by the end of the season.

If we keep him that is, either way we are so very deep so we can afford to move one of them.

Even Morris said yesterday on the pre game interview that VV needs a lot of work on his defensive game.
His offense has picked up but he is a D-man! I don't see any of the d-men in Manchester being anywhere near ready for the NHL!

His offense has picked up but he is a D-man! I don't see any of the d-men in Manchester being anywhere near ready for the NHL!
Players play to the level of their competition too often.

Voynov Muzzin and Hickey can all hold their own at the NHL level. I don't get a chance to see as many of the Monarch's games as you do but I do get isolated tapes (discs) in ten game blocks of several players once a month.

What I see in each of them is what I saw in A Mart last season and that is that they need only to be challenged to play at the next level and then brought along slowly in order to establish their NHL game.

NHL ready as an everyday player who can be counted on to play mistake free hockey? Not yet but, Muzzin did just fine during his time with the Kings and given the opportunity to have remained as a #7 he would have established himself by the end of the year.

I don't understand the exclamation point, maybe you meant to hit period but in either case yes I agree with you that VV is a defenceman and while I also agree that his D game needs work I believe that he is ready for his cup of tea with the big club say, 7 or 8 games and then given a shot to work on the flaws to his game back down in the A and then given another shot down the line to prove himself again.

In that I see him as being an NHL ready defenceman.

Muzzin has had his first run and he did allot better than expected. He is now ready for his next run and I believe might even be ready to stick as a number 7. In that I think that he too is ready to play in the NHL.

Hickey is easily ready for his first cup of tea as well. I guess it boils down to the fact that I don't put a ton of stock in Morris and while he is by far a greater authority than I am, I have seen his mistakes in judgement too often for me to have the same level of blind trust that you do in him.

I am probably wrong in some way's about Morris but not so far that my concerns about his judgement are without warrant.

So I guess at best time will tell which of us is right.

Just thought I'd add this as the Monarchs just tweeted it. For those on twitter, 3 Monarchs have joined!:

For the players' view of #ays you can follow @om89 @rayk71 or @coreyelkins

I am not pretending to be any kind of expert. And I do not have blind faith in Morris. I was just happy to hear him say the same thing as I felt. Most people think Voynov is great and should be in LA, I just don't see it. I am not saying they all could not have a few games up there but I don't think any are ready for the NHL fulltime.
I know Muzzin did well up there (and here last year) but I have not seen it here this season, though he has been better the last couple of games. Hickey on the other hand has been pretty much terrible all year. He gave me a lot of hope in the few games he played last year but has been disappointing this season. Like I said I am no expert, just saying what I see in my own eyes which doesn't count for much of anything!

All very interesting things about this game! I was thinking the same thing as they happened! And yeah it would be nice to score on a breakaway for a change. I think they need to spend a whole practice on that and then maybe they could win a shootout!
