Probably the best game that Neal-Testy-Kovy has had.. Staal was good, missed some chances. Overall team defense looked good.

Pens played great hockey in last 50 minutes.

MAF was fantastic. 3rd period was little shaky but well-deserved shutout.

Orpik was a monster tonite. He was tone setter for us.

+ Fleury with the shutout
+ 40 shots
+ Hitting all night long
+ That awesone PP in the second
+ Neal and Kovalev looking playoffs ready
+ FREE CANDY !!!

- Staal missing a ton of great chances
- 32 shots against, need to suffocate them more than that

Was there a single break away or legitimate 2 on 1 the entire game for either team?

Kunitz in the 3rd is the closest thing i can think of.

+This is just the game the Pens needed to play with Fleury also being awesome. Another performance like this in game 2, and I can see the Pens blowing this one out.

It's not going to be easy. Disciplined defensive play/lots of blocked shots/lots of hits ... grind em out ...

- I hate the nickname "Koon". It seems so awkward somehow.

+ MAF

+ Kov - still has a nice set of hands

+ Ash - always likd him. chipped in some gritty goals in last years cryers run

+staal- been saying for a while that his best assets on offense are..... along the boards and in front of the net. park that big body in there

+brooks - played that 1st period like he was ronnie lott

+ solid team effort all around

+ Tampa - looked undisciplined

- Neal - no goals

Plus:

+Staal. Very solid two-way game. He's getting chances.
+Kovy. Even though he still looks lazy owning *****es
+Neal. Big game. He's a playoff player.
+Top 4. Money well spent.

+MAF for outstanding goaltending even if he did tease us that one time
+Neal terrific nite and setup Kovy for the 1st goal
+Michalek all around great game and especially for his impact on the PP

Thought officiating was pretty good although I'm sure Lightning fans were screaming over the St. Louis non-call. Yea he did get hit in the mouth with a stick but he was also sitting on his rear end. I think Refs did the right thing.

Boy Malone was throwing his weight around tonite and came to play. Would love to know what he was saying to MAF

One more thing....

+ Pens discipline. Not giving more PP chances for TB.

+ Michalek/Michalek
+ 4th line really set the tone early in the game
+ Neal/Kovy/Test played their best hockey tonight
+ Orpik/Letang hitting everything and pretty mistake free tonight
+ Back/fore-checking really disturbed the Lightning tonight

- need to hit the net more, I swear we miss the most nets in the NHL
- PP looked better but could use some work

Agreed. I consistently defended this guy, never faltering.

Reasoning being, he always comes around and seems to prove me right.

What a brilliant game the Pittsburgh Penguins played tonight. Come out and repeat that performance in game 2 and it's going to get into the head of a lot of players on the Tampa Bay roster.

My big - though ... Bugsy not playing for the Pens anymore. Man, I love the game that guy plays.

Man MAF and Orpik were awesome tonight. If the Pens keep coming like that, Tampa can't withstand this physical game.

I thought TB faultered a little after the Kovy goal and Asham scored just after that. They looked confused after Kovy scored and then a little deflated after letting another one in 20 seconds later.

2 goals in 20 second after such a close checking game is definitively a back breaker. We couldn't score a goal in two periods and a half, how could we score two in just 10 minutes ?
