I'm not saying it's impossible, but there just aren't many suitors for a pitcher of Blanton's skill level and contract. Things change If the Phillies are willing to eat some of it, but I really don't see that happening.

And there are many starters who are "more reliable" than Blanton. Even if you use a crummy stat like Quality Starts, his career percentage is right around league average for all starting pitchers.

And how many league average starters get moved with a year left on their contract? Joe Blanton is a nice pick up for most teams in baseball. And your not really being fair to the man. His only real downside is that he isn't going to go out and win the game for you... At the same time he rarely kills your chances.

BTW, 57% to 49%.

We'll see. I'm willing to bet he doesn't get moved.

This is merely a long winded way of saying he's a middle of the rotation starter, which is common knowledge.

Blanton was 71st in quality start percentage in 2010, 20th in 2009, 96th in 2008, 42nd in 2007 and 61st in 2006. There are many pitchers that are more reliable than he is.

I was also impressed by Madson tonight, let up a double to start the 9th, than K'ed Cargo, Tulo, and Giambi.

Madson keeps this up and Lidge inherits the 8th inning job if he ever gets back and if Contreras doesn't already have it.

Phils offense should send De La Rosa a gift basket though with a note saying "We couldn't have done it without you(r wild pitches)."

Who knows, but they need bats and he's clearly expendable.

Yes, and that's a bit better than being a back of the rotation starter... even there, Blanton rarely goes out there and has complete bombs... which most of those guys do do.

...and many worse. There are 150 starting rotation spots in MLB at any given moment.

I'm happy they won my first game of the year tonight. What a doozy. Still, watching this team hit is so ****ing frustrating. Wilson Valdez and Cole Hamels: your players of the game!

Could we see the Jays possibly trade Juan Rivera? He played OF in LA and I think he could be an upgrade if Brown isn't on the team later in the year. This is of course near the deadline, not now.

Hopefully they'll just get rained out.

Kendrick sucks, whenever charlie pulls him he should bring out a mapped route to Allentown because that is where he belongs.

I'm blaming Kendrick sucking in the 1st on Blanton. Joe knew his elbow was still "cranky" and tried to come back up early. That forced them to send down Worley early, who should be starting this game.

E: and Martinez just misplayed that badly.

Why in hell did Kendrick get the start? He hasn't pitched well in as long as I can remember.

Aha! This is why Kendrick sucked tonight (more than usual), his mind was elsewhere!

Kendrick's WS ring found in swamp.

Quote:
According to Mt. Vernon Police, the ring was located at the bottom of a swamp in a Mentos container after a lengthy investigation.

Officials began the investigation April 1 and in the following two weeks connected 11 additional burglary victims across several counties. According to police, the ring was discovered by investigators working on an unrelated case.

I witnessed history: Jason Giambi's first 3 home run game in his entire career. Watching from the game it was even worse.

scoring in the NL has been down this month, and the Phillies are the second worse with 3 runs per game. TO make matters worse, one of the beat writers tweeter that Victorino is going to the DL along with Blanton.

Lineup yesterday:
RollinsSS
MartinezCF
Polanco3B
Howard1B
GloadRF
IbanezLF
RuizC
Orr2B

Lineup hopefully entering playoffs:
Rollins
Polanco
Utley
Howard
Victorino
Brown/Mayberry
Ibanez/Mayberry
Ruiz

Wouldn't mind adding a bat and a lefty in the BP.

And they came off the bats of Ibanez and Francisco, so don't count on that happening too often.

The issue for him is age and position. I could see him used in a trade for an AL player, as he could play 1B/DH there.

I am not sure how well he could transition to OF though.
