Neuvy will be fine tonight, it's not like he hasn't played a NA hockey playoff series before. Also I'd like to know why every single Obie thread on the board gets invaded by pens fans who feel the need to rip every accomplishment of his to shreds(jealousy I'd guess)

Maybe their GM wants Avery doing those things. Trust me, if he gets a sweater, he will try some of his old stunts. Prust is filling in well in his absence though. Or do you expect Torts to try to beat us straight up game after game, even if its failing? Its not time for them to abandon their plan, but losing Cally and if they keep losing, I expect some change of torts, dont you?

If the refs didnt hate avery, 2 years he would have drawn a bunch of penalties from Erskine boarding / CFB him repeatedly

So I just went through the Caps all time playoff record game by game. Not surprising, but still scary:

Caps Game 1's
21-12

Game 2's
15-17
Game 3's
12-20
Game 4's
15-15
Game 5's
8-19
Game 6's
10-10
Game 7's
2-7

Bruce needs to be in the guys ear right now to make him take a dumb penalty a la Malkin.

Smart for Torts. Two years ago the Caps PP made Avery pay for his insolence. This year, nothing to fear. Torts might as well let him make some noise.

Zeisberger | Mike Zeisberger | Another war of words between Tortorello and NY Post's Larry Brooks at morning presser. Couple of "F bombs" exchanged. Now we have a series.

Interesting quirk concerning the Rangers this year. They were 20-17-4 at home but 24-16-1 on the road.

Rangers shouldn't be fearing the PP like previous years and Avery should be able to get away with some of his older antics.

He'll take dumb penalties on his own. The trick is not retaliating.

The Caps PP actually looked pretty good on Wednesday, ignoring the fact that nothing went in.

That's a dangerous game to play though, given the Caps PP can change on a dime and be explosive.

True, but what other choices do the Rangers really have at this point?

It's not much of an option really. The Caps have dealt with him before. They can handle one idiot no problem. If he wants to be stupid and take penalties that's their funeral. Even if the Caps don't cash in, being on the PK often will wear them down and keep them off the offensive side.

Frankly they don't have a ton of options really other than Lunqvist being literally perfect for each game.

Keep in mind he's replacing a guy that took a dumb penalty and got more or less benched (at least for part of the game). No reason they can't limit Avery's minutes the same way if they need to.

Yeah pretty much but let's not get too cocky they've got a good defense and goalie that steals games...as long as the caps play their system they'll be fine the pp is just an added bonus. I'd like to see some scoring from the 3rd and 4th lines tonight. The games against the rangers are going to be hard but we should win them.

I think the floodgates open in the second half of the game. The Rangers can't keep this up. They're basically the early 90s Caps and we all know how that works out.

I forsee another tight, defensive struggle. Special teams likely to make the difference.
