Team's alternates/regular home jerseys in the playoffs

I noticed that in years past, teams never really used a 3rd/alternate jersey in the playoffs.

Right now Im watching the sharks/kings game and I see that SJ is wearing their black jerseys instead of the teal ones. I also noticed that Anaheim last night used their new alternates that have more orange on them.

My question is- are the sharks/ducks gonna wear their alternates for the rest of their respective home games in the playoffs, or are teams allowed to use 3 different uniforms during the playoffs?

Last year Buffalo used their third jerseys in all of their home games (mainly because they were starting to come to the realization that everyone ****ing hated the slug jerseys).

Possibly they had better records in their 3rds or they want to boost the sales of the 3rds (more so Anaheim since they are new this year)

Well yea, but they used those same jerseys in all their home games. I believe the kings did the same thing. My question is more of will the sharks wear their teals at all or are they gonna with black all playoffs

Ive never seen a team wear 2 different home jerseys during the same playoffs

Seems to be a trend that is gaining steam, for whatever reason.

When Buffalo and Philadelphia did it when they were switching to those jerseys full-time the following season it made sense. San Jose and Anaheim wearing their alternates...seems silly to me.

I imagine Tampa will be wearing their alts as well, which would make sense since their alt is the only one they're wearing right now that will be in use next season.

Dallas won the cup in their alternates back in 99, they later became the homes

I said it on the gamethread, but i find sad the fact that the teams seems to limit themselves to black and white...its boring.

Teams are only allowed to wear two jerseys through the playoffs. San Jose has to wear their alternates for the rest of the playoffs.

Buffalo did in the 2007 ECF vs Ottawa. Wore the slugs for their first two home games (lost both), then for game 5 in Buffalo they tried to switch it up and wore their 3rds at the time. Didn't work

Didn't the Penguins wear one of their baby blue 3rd's in one of their playoff games last year?

Not exactly. Ever since the Edge jerseys have been introduced (07-08) it's been sort of an unwritten rule from RBK to only have two sweaters worn in the playoffs.

No. Since 2007-08 no one has worn more than two jerseys in the playoffs.

I don't know why this is, but it is.

Almost positive this is false. Pens and Sabres have both worn 3 jerseys since then (maybe I'm wrong though) and I think the Canucks and maybe Flyers have also done this (but this might have been before 2008).

Anyways the Sharks 3rds are sweet, Ducks wore their 3rds in game 1 aswell (HORRIBLE jerseys). Both teams will probably be wearing their normal homes come game 2

edit: actually think I'm wrong. Sucks for the Ducks if they have to wear those jerseys again
edit 2: The Pens first winter classic was in 2008, I'm almost positive they've worn those jerseys in the playoffs

The same rule existed before Reebok ever produced an NHL jersey. Dallas in 1998-99 wore their green alternates instead of their standard road blacks, Pittsburgh in 1995-96 or 1996-97 (don't remember which) wore their gray-wrapped alternates instead of the diagonal "PITTSBURGH", and I'm sure with some digging I could find other examples.

The last time the Penguins wore those jerseys in the playoffs was in 1972.

If I recall correctly, in 1997 vs. the Panthers, for Game 1 on the road the Rangers wore their standard blue away jersey. They lost that game, and switched to the Lady Liberty for game 2 and won. They stuck with their 3rds for road games from there on out.

The San Jose radio guys said that it was the players choice for the Sharks to wear the black unis for the playoffs.

The penguins have never worn their baby blues in the playoffs.
