That's my assessment as well. Can’t remember the last time we got a nice tip-in goal and it was quite fitting that Canucks 2nd goal came as a result of another of Keith’s shots being blocked. The dmen refuse to wrist it to the net if necessary. Instead they telegraph it with the big wind up. This has been going on since day one this year and it is so frustrating to watch it game in and game out.
This is also the reason our PP has struggled lately. They are always looking for the perfect pass/pretty goal instead of getting a dirty rebound goal or something. I rather have Campbell on the PP than Keith. Keith can never get a shot through traffic plus it kinda reminds me of Trent Yawney(and thats NOT good).
I know this sounds dumb but if the Hawks forwards continue to hang around the perimeter than take some elevated bombs from the point off Vannys Dmen. This should soften their crease up a little so the Hawks can jump on the loose rebounds. If they block our shots then you elevate those shot a little more. I guarantee you that they would get out of the way.
Other than the fact that we were badly outmuscled in the first period, Hawks really didn’t play that badly in the first game. Of course, they can be better but then again so can Canucks. I think we need to play a patient road game tonight and avoid odd man rushes against.
As a die hard Canucks fan, I agree with everything mentioned in this post. The first period in Game 1 was the best I have EVER seen the Canucks play. It will be very tough for our club to match that. The Hawks played a good road game, and Crawford deserves more recognition for his performance in Game 1. You guys hit 4 posts which could have ended up in the net, and 2 hilite reel saves by Lou. The game could have easily been 4-2, 5-2 for the Hawks. In regards to avoiding odd man rushes....thats nearly impossible against our speed and our offensively minded defense core.
I know what the Hawks are capable of, regardless if the're "not the same team as last year". The real Canuck fans respect the Hawks and we know this is far from over. Good luck the rest of the way. It's going to be a great series.
Well, I've finally realized that posting on the main board is futile... While their are certainly a few knowledgeable, fair Canucks fans on here, they are certainly not in the majority.
Hope our Hawks can eliminate some of their cockiness tonight.
You joined in 2007 and are just now realizing this?! haha. Well, welcome to the light!
We need to knock one in early and remind Vancouver that we aren't just going to bend over and take it.
On the whole, the other night's game was not a bad game for the Hawks outside of the 1st period. Crawford showed he was a rookie, yet quickly recovered. Has everyone forgotten Niemi last year? There were very few "goaltender" games last year, with 3-4+ goals against. The difference was that Niemi had a more consistent, harder-working, and more physical team in front of him than Crawford does today.
We need more bodies in front of the net (buzz-phrase for this series?) and we need a little incidental contact with Luongo - remind HIM that we're still Chicago.
... and a little Chelsea Dagger when they bring it home Sunday won't hurt either.
