Speaking of the old DVE morning show ... does anyone know where I could get/purchase some of the old compilation albums they used to put out at NRM back in the day?

Cleveland has the Grog Shop and Peabodys for smaller to mid range acts, Beachland Ballroom Agora and House of Blues for mid to more popular acts, and then several places for big acts. So if music is your thing, I'd say Cleveland gets the edge slightly.
You couldn't be more correct on this. I've traveled so many times to Cleveland to see a good metal show... Agora once, House of Blues once (I think?), and Peabody's numerous of times.

Pittsburgh, recently seems to be attracting more metal shows though.

When I went to Pittsburgh a nice guy tried to help me find a place to party and he kept telling me to go to "sauce size" or something like that, it took me an hour to figure out he was talking about "south side".

Yeah exactly. I'm mostly a punk/hardcore and some indie fan myself but dabble in some metal (mostly Between the Buried and Me kind of stuff). A lot of those tours over the years have passed on Pittsburgh but stopped in Cleveland just due to more appropriate venues. I see that changing in the future in Pittsburgh between Mr. Smalls, now stage AE, and I have been seeing shows at a few other places I;m not as familiar with.

That was definitely an encounter with a Yinzer.

When I was heavy into punk/hardcore back in my high school days (late 90's), Club Laga (RIP) here in Pittsburgh was FANTASTIC for those types of shows. Seemed there were 3-4 shows a week with awesome line-ups.

I KNOW. I loved Laga. Saw my first few shows there in middle school. I was so bummed when it closed.

Is the Electric Banana still open? It's been 20+ years since I was there to see a punk show

I played my second ever show at Club Laga when I was a teenage punk.

My first was at the Decade, which has long since been demolished to make way for a CVS in Oakland.

BTBAM was insane at Altar Bar the other night, I have no idea how they wrap their heads around what they do rhythmically.

I've been in missile silos with better acoustics and bathrooms than the Electric Banana.

I have heard the pirogies are the bomb in chef Simon's neighborhood. It doesn't surprise me the best thing to do in town is eat and listen to music though.

Saw them in Buffalo last night, one of the best acts I've ever seen (admittedly I haven't been to a whole lot of concerts).

As a teenager though, you really didn't notice those things. You just wanted to go, catch a couple elbows to the face and have a good time. I looked it up and says it was turned into a Italian restaurant about 10 years ago.

It's still owned by the same people, but they've turned it into an Italian restaurant called Zarra's. Actually has really awesome authentic food and a really unique decor. Def worth a visit.
