The Duck ones are as simple as they get:

Sergei Fedorov-Feds
Joffrey Lupul-Loops
Steve Rucchin-Rooch
Rob Niedermayer-Nieds
Petr Sykora-Pete
Vaclav Prospal-Vinny
Mike Leclerc-Jerky
Samuel Pahlsson-Sami, or God
Andy McDonald-Andy Mac
Stanislav Chistov-Cheesy
Vitali Vishnevski-Vish
Sandis Ozolinsh-Ozo
Mark Popovic-Popo
Jean-Sebastien Giguere-J-S, or Jiggy
Ilya Bryzgalov-Bryz

My favorite one has to be Mark Recchi's, the Recchin' Ball.

..i think the story is that when Esche was a kid, playing hockey his jersey had "R.ESCHE" as his name plate..i dunno if he had a bro or cousin on the team with the same last name or not..but R.ESCHE was turned to RESCHE and since he was a goalie i guess Chico came next..

The second story on Esche is closer to the correct one. His name was stenciled on his sticks though, not his locker.

Recchi: The Wreckin' Ball or the Recchin' Ball came from the announcer in Pittsburgh, Lange, who had a name for all the players. Recchi jokes that it has nothing to do with his play on the ice, but his driving skill. Recchi also says he was called "Knuckles" because of his skating style being so low to the ice that his knuckles drag on the ground.

Lindros: Could his new nickname become "The Nixed One" after no one picks him up as a free agent?

Desjardins: Rico - comes from Rico Suave, named by teammates who were teasing him about his natty clothes.

A story about Rick Tocchet's on ice antics: As the story goes, he was facing off next to Stu Grimson, and just as the puck was about to drop, Rick asked him "Did your mom name you Stu because she couldn't spell Stupid?" Grimson was so taken aback - wondering I guess who was insulted more, he or his mom - that he just stood there and couldn't react as play resumed.

Pierre Turgeon: Rangers radio station guys called him "Sturgeon" because he floated. In Montreal he was known at the Tin Man because he had no heart.

Vlad Malakhov: Vlad the Impaler

Brian Savage: Mr. October because he can't score once November comes around.

Terry Carkner was Turnstile Terry.

Rod Brind'Amour - Rod the Bod.

Tommy Soderstrom was just known as a **** because he slept with every groupie on the road. Ok, not really a nickname. :lol

Tomas Sandstrom - The Sandman

Too many Russians called "The Russian Tank" to name.

Pat Falloon - Fat Balloon after he came to camp out of shape.

Oldies:

Andre Dupont - Moose

Reggie Leach - The Rifle

Ken Linesman - The Rat

Don Saleski - Big Bird

Larry Goodenough - Izzy

Thanks for clarifying.

His nickname could be morphed from "The Next One" to "The Nixed One" to "The Jinxed One."

Other former Flyers:

Dave "The Hammer" Schultz
Paul Holmgren was nicknamed "Homer"
"Cowboy" Bill Flett
(Coach) Freddie "The Fog" Shero
Bob "Hound" Kelly

No, I don't see his situation as being jinxed. His skating with head down is what caused his concussions, not bad luck. I think when he was younger he towered over other players and intimidated them so much that he was allowed to form bad skating habits of not looking at what was ahead of him. He got to the NHL and suddenly he is with players more in line with his size. He never adjusted.

Ah! how could I forget Cowboy Bill? Shame on me!

Just thought of another older one:

Ron Dougay - Ron TooGay because of his flowing locks. He always got catcalls and whistles from the fans.

Have you ever read "Full Spectrum"? There's some juicy stuff in there.

Ron Dougay

Around the locker room at least Ron Dougay was known as Donkey Dong. Phil Esposito says that is why all the models in New York had such big smiles on their faces in the late 70's.

There are a lot of versions of the Esche story aren't there. The one I heard, and I'm pretty sure it was on Esche telling it on Cool Shots was that when he got called up in Phoenix the first time, he had R. Esche on his sticks. JR saw them and asked when they got Chico Resch on the team. And that's where Chico came from. At least the way I remember it.

Tin Man was around in his Buffalo days for the same reason.

One of my favorites:

Mikko Makela - The European Vacation

Jonathan Cheechoo - Cheech
